MONOCHROME FAMILY TOWNHOUSE IN COPENHAGEN

Do you remember the Vipp shelter from last week? I’ve just discovered that some of my favourite lifestyle images on Pinterest all originate from this monochrome family townhouse in Copenhagen.

I found the place on Dwell and it turns out that the couple who live there with their four children both work for Vipp in a senior capacity. Hence the beautifully placed products around the house.

You know grey is my favourite colour but I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to paint my whole kitchen and dining area in this dark-ish shade. Let alone dark grey kitchen units. The couple say it is their most used room of the house and that it works particularly well for entertaining as the space feels cozy and cave like. A stark contrast to the rest of the house which feels light and airy.

It’s a very monochrome and minimalist space where each piece of furniture is a (future) design classic supporting the Scandinavian tradition of ‘form follows function’ as well as the use of organic and quality materials.

My favourite room of the house has to be the home office in the attic though. Oh, how I love that butterfly chair and the old black typewriter. What a gem!

SPLIT VIEW MOUNTAIN LODGE IN NORWAY

26 January 2015

architecture, split view, mountain lodge, norway, ski chalet, contemporary, interpretation, timber facade, concrete workbench, luxury, relaxed, cozy, style, trend, minimal, scandinavian, simple, holiday home, photography

I’m fascinated by the contemporary architecture of this Norwegian mountain lodge by Reiulf Ramstad Arkiteckter. Beautifully captured in the twilight hours drawing you in with it’s warm glow that spills out into the snowy landscape.

I like how the architecture follows the natural contours of the mountain slope with multiple levels and split living zones and it’s current timber facade will fade over time to grey blending beautifully with the surroundings. The layout draws you towards the fully glazed end walls that frame magnificent views in the dining and living areas. But my heart skipped a beat when I saw the open-plan kitchen with a double sided fire place and a ‘floating’ concrete workbench. Simply gorgeous!

The mountain lodge has a distinct luxurious feel, partly because of the sleek knot-free timber lined walls and ceiling, but it’s still very much a family holiday home with cozy and relaxed in-built seating, a children’s lounge and mezzanine as well as a separate guest annex.

A fabulous interpretation of a traditional ski chalet.

DANISH CHRISTMAS COTTAGE

17 December 2014

I’ve been drawn to modern rustic Danish Christmas decor on my Pinterest and Instagram accounts and simply have to share this amazing home with you today. It’s the weekend cottage of creative director Betina Stampe who founded the Danish homewares company Bloomingville.

Her festive style is simple and monochrome with lots of glass and natural textures like branches, wood and pine cones. As Bloomingville’s creative director she likes to add something new and different every year and has very subtly added little hints of ‘hot pink’ to this year’s decor.

I absolutely love these glimpses of her home and could curl up quite happily in front of her fire. The earthy tones and textures of rugs, throws, baskets, bowls and furniture make the place feel really warm and inviting and supports the unique Bloomingville style – a mixture of raw products with a nostalgic Scandinavian twist.

Interestingly, Betina likes to take all her festive decorations down shortly after Christmas and welcome Spring inside with lots of pastel accessories as well as hyacinths and tulips. An idea I might adopt myself this year as we’re moving shortly after Crimbo.

PLACES TO SHOP | ZOCO HOME

How awesome is this shop!? Moroccan design and home decor meets Scandinavian cool – and it totally works.

Zoco Home is based in Helsinki but you can shop their collection of unique handmade decorations like poufs, rugs, lanterns, ceramics, vintage trays and cement tiles online as they ship worldwide.

I could dive right into these photographs beautifully styled and shot by Paulina Arcklin. She has a real talent for creating a modern rustic look and I love all the textures set within this white minimalist space. A look that fits happily into any season but works especially well for Christmas I think.

I adore Paulina’s style and have featured her shots of Copenhagen furniture shop/bar/cafe Clarrods back in July. It’s another must-visit on my list.

INTERIORS CRUSH | VILLA WITH POLISHED CONCRETE FLOORS

22 October 2014

norm architects, Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen, photographer, architect, designer, style, interior design, villa, renovation, vedbaek, copenhagen, scandinavian, clean, simple, original details, light, polished concrete, floor, denmark, daylight, trend, style

You’ve probably seen bits and pieces of this incredible project on Pinterest and Tumblr before but I wanted to show you the whole house and give you a bit of background info.

The owner is multi-creative talent Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen who is not only the co-founder of Danish Norm Architects but also a designer, stylist, art director and photographer. He pays particular attention to haptic qualities – sense of touch that is to you and me – and the human scale in interior design. His spaces are always spectacular and striking, very minimal and understated but nevertheless inviting and full of life, light and atmosphere.

Today’s featured project is his own house located in an old fishing village just outside Copenhagen with views across the harbour and sea. The villa was built in 1911 and the architecture inspired by the Tyrolean Alps. It was in bad need of renovation and Jonas wanted to strip out all the non-original features therefore unearthing it’s heritage and some art deco details.

I would have loved to see a before and after shot as Jonas took out a few walls to create long sight lines and to let daylight stream through the house into the north facing living room. The polished concrete floors give the place a wonderful cohesion and flow carefully balancing the original details with some industrial elements.

Though the rooms are set up for the shoot I can’t help but appreciate the almost poetic quality of his home. I love the stripped back stone fire places, the potted olive tree, the simple and classic furniture in soft greys and different woods and the long tactile curtains gathering on the floor. There’s a feeling of luxury as well as ease running through the property that only a combination of space and natural light can achieve. *swoon*

Can you tell I’ve got a crush!? Check out some more polished concrete here.
