I couldn’t resist showing you this stripped back but still quietly glamorous interior of restaurant Dottir in Berlin’s hip Mitte district where renowned Icelandic chef Victoria Eliasdóttir serves fresh Nordic cuisine.

The grand dimensions date back to the 1880s and many of the original details remain. I love how the interior design has been carefully kept in a state of semi renovation with some beautiful vintage items like the 1930s bar stools, large abstract paintings and some antique lighting. It’s a great juxtaposition of old and new, drab and glamour and feeds the imagination.

TRAVEL | THE ESTATE TRENTHAM, AUSTRALIA

Continuing with my current obsession of monochrome / browns / natural materials combo I found this gorgeous weekend retreat just outside Melbourne. The Estate Trentham has been lovingly restored and beautifully furnished by interior stylist Lynda Gardener and is set amongst orchards and herb gardens.

Lynda loves discovering treasures at fleamarkets and vintage shops and the house features an eclectic selection of her quirky finds. I’m swooning over the perfect mix of industrial and rustic with concrete floors and worktops in the kitchen, open wooden shelves and lots of weathered wood. Whites, greys and chocolatey browns in combination with lots of cozy textures give the place a relaxed calm feel – ideal for kicking back and taking a digital detox.

ECLECTIC STYLE IN COPENHAGEN APARTMENT

Just before this week is over I’d like to share a fabulously eclectic Copenhagen apartment with you that incorporates some cute upcycling and recycling ideas.

When Dutch couple Irene and Arjan moved from Amsterdam to Copenhagen with their two kids Irene quit her job as a lawyer and devoted herself to painting some of which can be seen in the living room and hall.

But her creativity also extends to decorating and she has managed to bring an intriguing eclectic style to their beautiful home. At first glance Irene’s style is typical Scandinavian but on closer inspection you can spot a lot of flea market finds and vintage furniture some of which has been painted, some scrubbed down to it’s bare bones and some newly upholstered like the Biedermeier sofa that sits comfortably next to an old wooden crate upcycled as a side table.

I particularly like the way Irene has decorated and styled the kids’ room keeping everything very tonal and natural with exposed floorboards, a painted old wardrobe and an old school desk. Throwing in a few splashes of colour with cushions, lighting, bedding and toys of course.

A great mix of old and new!

For me one of the best things about blogging is to discover and experience new ‘stuff’. Wether it is connecting with people and fellow bloggers who share the same aesthetics, being introduced to new brands, makers and designers or – as in this instance – a furniture shop in Crystal Palace, South London

Maybe the stars aligned or maybe it was sheer coincidence but a few Sunday’s ago Do South shop brought together a bunch of lifestyle bloggers, stylists and one very talented interiors photographer to document a styling challenge in one of the most inspiring places I’ve recently visited.

Do South is an interior shop with a difference and a hip edge that sells a mix of classic Danish designer furniture, one-off vintage finds and some ethnic pieces from Africa through to Australia. I call it modern rustic and it’s bang on trend for me as you can see from previous interiors I’ve featured on here and here and here.

Freddie Oke is the owner of Do South which he opened in 2011 after returning from living in Australia. With a background in music he is an artist at heart and takes the process of selecting pieces for the shop very seriously. Obsessed by detail, material, shape and colour I was delighted to talk to him as we share the same passion for craftsmanship and aesthetics.

I can’t wait to get going and initially find it hard to narrow down my choice as I love almost everything in the shop. Slowly my vintage French workbench styling comes together reflecting the essence of Do South with an eclectic mix of amber glass glassware, a copper candle holder and mustard cushion by Hay and some amazing vintage leather football boots, embossed with Johnny Hancocks name who played for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

I think I’m speaking for my fellow bloggers when I say that this was pure joy to spend a few hours styling with such a great selection of furniture, lighting and decor as you can see in our results below, all beautifully captured by Kristy Noble.

PERFECTLY STYLED SWEDISH APARTMENT

Argh! I don’t like Monday mornings so I’m swooning over this beautiful Swedish apartment which I found via real estate agency Entrance. It’s gorgeous, right!? The bad news is, it’s sold. The good news is that you can see it here on the blog.

I wish they’d put this much effort into selling houses over here in the UK. How much more enticing if you see a tidy, clutter-free and lived-in environment that’s styled to perfection. It immediately triggers the ‘yes, I want that lifestyle and yes, I’m going to outbid whoever stands in my way.’ response. No? Doesn’t have the same effect on you? Maybe it’s just me and my mild OCD.

I just want to sit down at that table and tuck into the lovely cheeses and help myself to a glass or two of red before collapsing on the white sofa and probably nodding off reading the papers.

I particularly love the black leather sofa which looks like a vintage mid-century piece and works beautifully with the surrounding soft greys and whites. Now the open-plan kitchen dining area has to be my favourite though with the dark grey cabinetry and I even like the brass door handles – not normally something I’d go for but it works with the Shaker style for the wood work. And how cool is the DIY string lighting above the sink!? Reminds me of a futuristic version of an old fashioned drying rack. Genius!
