COOL STUFF | SCENERYLABEL ACCESSORIES

2 April 2014

Africa, 80s, Bold, Graphic, Pattern, Beth Oladipo, Scenerylabel, Home, Fashion, Accessories, Dutch, Inspiration, Cool Stuff

Happy Tuesday y’all and let’s continue with some 80s inspired living.

Equally bold and graphic as yesterday’s interior stylist Susanna Vento, it’s fashion and home accessories by Dutch brand SCENERYLABEL today. To be truthful to owner and creator Beth Oladipo her designs are mainly inspired by the crafts and cultures of tropical lands. Think Central and West Africa with a hint of 80s art and music, bold pops of colour, dynamic vintage prints and lots of black and white patterning and before you know it you’ll be humming Toto’s Africa (my god, I love that song!).

Beth was brought up in a theatrical household and watched her mother make all manner of props and costumes from scraps of fabrics and wire coat hangers which initiated her own creative journey. Starting with an illustration degree in London, on to window dressing and styling for magazines, to designing prints for fashion and finally starting her own label in 2011.

Her attention to detail is outstanding and every product is meticulously hand-made. She uses a mix of techniques like genuine wax batik, patchwork, embroidery and applique that make every piece totally unique.

I was taken by Giorgos Gripeos creative photography that sums up the point of her accessories which is to serve as zingy, imaginative and inspiring props for everyday life and a stance against our homes becoming too bland.

ZARA SS14 MINI COLLECTION

18 February 2014

Kids, Zara, Mini, Baby, Collection, Spring, SS14, Fashion

Isn’t the latest Zara SS14 Mini Collection adorable? I could go mad over those tiny little clothes and love the way blogging buddies Jantine Vaartjes and Vivian Hoebe, aka April & May have styled the shots.

I’ve featured Zara Kids on here before and was excited to hear of the collaboration between the two Dutch stylists and the Spanish fashion house. The collection is beautiful with soft greys, pinks and blues and I love the quirky cuddly toy people that go with it. The prints feature some modern graphic clouds and stars and as usual Zara take great care with their detailing, like buttons, pockets and ruche details.

It’s all just too cute for words and I might just have to sneak in another moodboard in the coming months to satisfy all the yummy-mummy readers.

PHOTOGRAPHY FOR THE SENSES BY BROOKE HOLM

I’m a big fan of Australian design and photography and came across photographer Brooke Holm through the wonderful EST Magazine and Lucy Feagins blog The Design Files.

Her style is clean and crisp and immediately draws you in. I love her travel series to New Zealand and breathtaking shots of sweeping landscapes, majestic mountains and misty forests. If you don’t already have the travel bug her photos will make you want to quit your job and jump on a plane. Somehow she manages to capture the essence of a place and speak to all your senses. I can just smell the pine forest, feel the fresh mountain air and hear the deafening silence at the lake looking at her shots.

Another favourite subject is interior photography, often styled by the talented Marsha Golemac who knows how to add those little touches that turn a good shot into a great one.

If you like what you see check out Brooke’s blog and website and follow her on Instagram, 16k followers can’t be bad and I’m one of them.

MINIMALIST CHIC IN BLACK AND WHITE

13 January 2014

I’m feeling minimalist chic this week and crushing on this black and white shot via REVS Magazine by photographer Mick de Lint. The loose fitting white shirt with grandad collar, black cigarette pants, jacket and brogues are just my thing and I love the tussled hair tied in a loose ponytail with the light coming in from behind over the top of the canvas. A perfect snapshot.

It looks as if she’s probably getting ready for the real shot and yet this looks so much looser and appealing to me. One of those models who oozes effortless cool.

WOMENS WINTER FASHION TRENDS 2013

11 December 2013

I’m going to start with a confession: winter is not really my favourite season (summer is) but the fact that you can wrap up in all sorts of layers does soften the blow and adds fun when putting an outfit together. Not even mentioning the endless possibilities of adding accessories…

For me winter also provides a real contrast of activities. From keeping active outside to beat the cold with a brisk walk on crisp and crunchy snow, or even ice skating, skiing or sledging to pure relaxation inside preferably curling up in front of an open fire with a hot drink in hand, propped up by lots of comfy cushions and candles. Maybe I should rethink my choice of favourite season!?

Today’s little moodboard focuses on women’s winter fashion trends I’ve picked up on Pinterest and Tumblr, chunky knits being a real favourite of mine at the moment but I hope it’ll also give you a warm feeling inside seeing all these luxuriously soft fabrics and textures. As always I’ve included a load of street styles to take inspiration from as well as some beautifully composed fashion shots. Sit back and enjoy.

What do you like best about winter?

NOTE: For more on chunky knits read Madga & Paula’s story of BRUUM KNITS.

Enjoy and I hope you’re inspired!
