WILD BOYS AND GIRLS | SS2016 LAUNCH

5 March 2016

wild boys and girls, ss2016, spring summer, launch, collection, kids apparel and decor, look book, capsule collection, designed and made in the uk, statement wall art, minimal graphics, monochrome, succinct typographic prints, strong, simple, pared back

Hey peeps, I’m back! After a few frantic weeks (months) working on the new Spring Summer 2016 collection for Wild Boys and Girls I’m just a little bit proud to finally show you the result of all those late nights and copious amounts of coffee and dark chocolate – I should ask Lindt Chocolatier to sponsor me.

Caroline Jones took theses fantastic look book pictures of our new range and I couldn’t be happier. It playfully conveys what WBG is all about: Have fun. Be loud. Be noisy. Be wild. Be creative. Sing, dance, laugh, play, try things out and let your imagination run wild – it’s the *only* way to learn. And most of all don’t be afraid to make a fool of yourself.

For Spring Summer we are expanding our kids apparel and decor range and have three mini capsule collections.

Our EVERYDAY collection covers you all year round with succinct and strong typographic prints and the boy / girl and bro / sis graphics are perfect for some sibling twinning. The PARTY collection features fun prints like masks and fete. And our ADVENTURE collection is perfect for showing off your little one’s wild side with our popular arrows as well as new prints like cactus, ouch and adventure.

All t-shirts are now designed and made in the UK, slim fitting in super soft 100% cotton, kind to skin and without an itchy back neck label for added comfort.

No Wild Boys and Girls room would be complete without some statement wall art and we’ve added some minimal pared back graphics and hip typographic prints to compliment the t-shirt range.

To check out the new collection head over to the shop.

RESTORED MOUNTAIN RETREAT BY SCOTT AND SCOTT

15 February 2016

Restored, Mountain, Retreat, Canada, scott and scott, architects, vancouver, modern rustic, wood, plywood, concrete flooring, industrial, minimal, cabin, steel staircase, marble kitchen sink, trend, style, styling, interior design, decor

This restored mountain retreat has been brought into the 21st century by Scott & Scott Architects and ticks all my modern rustic boxes.

Lots of warm wood – from plywood wall dividers to old beams – is tamed by an industrial concrete floor and steel staircase as well as minimal white walls. The simple wooden furniture is covered in fluffy sheep skins and the inbuilt fireplace gives that warm cabin feeling. I love how the light floods through the open steel staircase from the first floor giving it real prominence and drama.

The most stunning feature has to be the kitchen sink though which has been carved out of one single chunky slab of marble. What a feat!

NINA AND CO | THE BREAKFAST COLLECTION

11 February 2016

nina woodcroft, nina and co, ethical, batch produced, the breakfast collection, multicultural heritage, responsibly sourced materials, australian, danish, indian, multicultural heritage, simple, geometry, clean, stripped-back, honest, social enterprises, luminary bakery, trend, style

Let me introduce you to talented London designer Nina Woodcroft whose strong sense of ethics led her to start her own design studio Nina and Co in 2014. I was lucky enough to get my hands on some bowls from the first batch of her Breakfast Collection which is made in collaboration with design consultancy The Ceramicists.

The collection is incredibly tactile with an unglazed ‘bottom’ that shows off the dark clay and perfectly imperfect grey / blue glazing. I’ve had my cereal as well as some milky coffee from it as it sits so beautifully in the hand and I love the slanted edges and thin rim. The entire collection is made from responsibly sourced materials and batch-produced to maximise efficiency and reduce waste.

Nina attributes her inspiration in part to her multicultural heritage – she was born and bred in Camden to an Australian mother and Indian / Danish father. Her clean approach to design, stripped-back geometry and simple, honest forms are reminiscent of Danish design and the basic requirements of these everyday objects have been carefully considered, challenged and rendered to bring artistry and celebration to the breakfast table.

Her studio is also currently working on two social enterprise projects; a cafe for the homelessness charity Centrepoint in Soho and a bakery and cafe for Luminary Bakery, which offers opportunities for vulnerable women in East London to build a future for themselves and their families through baking, both of which are due to complete early this year.

BLACK HOUSE BY CANNY ARCHITECTURE

8 February 2016

black house, canny architecture studio, est magazine, sophisticated, seductive, restful, relaxed, sleek, interior, decor, furniture, copper, lights, tiled chimney breast, exterior, interior design, style, farm house, barn door, juxtaposition, black cladding

I’m swooning over this contemporary take on a traditional farm house by award winning studio Canny Architecture discovered via Est Magazine.

I love the exposed roof structure on the inside giving the house such great height and drama. The sophisticated moody colour scheme of greys and whites sits in harmony with the black kitchen and mostly black furniture. The kitchen pendant lights give little copper accents and there’s some scrunchy brown leather seating in the boot room and games room but the showstopper is the tiled chimney breast around the fireplace which stands out in it’s glazed terracotta-esque glory. A restful interior design that is utterly seductive as well as wonderfully relaxed.

My favourite bit has to be the entrance with it’s heavy wooden double doors and cross construction hinting at an old barn. A great juxtaposition to the sleek architecture and black cladding.
