CONTEMPORARY WEEKEND HOME IN SKAGEN

10 October 2016

weekend home, skagen, denmark, coast, beach, sea, dunes, panoramic windows, cosy, modern, contemporary, modern rustic, bunk beds, architecture, customise, cedar wood, interior design, style, trend, styling, location

I was blown away when I saw this contemporary weekend home in Skagen, Denmark. Nestled in amongst the dunes and protected from the worst of the weather this home reminds me of the coastline where I grew up in Northern Germany and I got an immediate yearning for it. The pictures instantly brought back memories of salty air and sand between my toes and endless days playing on the beach, catching crabs, building sand castles, collecting driftwood and playing hide and seek in the dunes.

The large panoramic windows and cosy corner sofa make any TV or screen redundant as simply watching the weather and light change across the beach and sea is enough stimulus. The older I get the more I feel the need to disconnect and press the pause button on life. I get so carried away with the stream of new and exciting design that I sometimes feel my brain can’t process all the data and I long for a simpler life.

The house is a weekend home to two families and even though it’s a mere 54 sqm it sleeps eight with bedroom space being kept at a minimum by building bunk beds that are cosy yet offer privacy set behind the bathroom which serves as a room divider.

The main room is kept open plan and uncluttered and I adore the modern rustic look and the wrap around windows with it’s deep seats, perfect for lounging and enjoying the sun on a cold and windy day. The architect and owner wanted the space to feel as if it was carved out of one solid piece of wood and has used the finest cedar wood everywhere on the inside even customising the kitchen – who wouldn’t volunteer for the washing up when you have that view!?

If there ever was a perfect weekend location for me this would be it.

INTERIORS CRUSH | HOME OF ARTILLERIET FOUNDERS

5 October 2016

interiors crush, decor, vintage finds, old and new, Scandinavian, modern rustic, style, trend, styling, lotta agaton, photography, kristofer Johnsson, drama, moss green, home, artilleriet founders, christian and bjorn

Here is another mid-week interiors crush for you – the home of Artilleriet founders Christian and Bjorn beautifully styled by Lotta Agaton and photographed by Kristofer Johnsson. You would expect the owners of one of Swedens most coveted interiors shop to surrounded themselves with beautiful things but I think all the little (and large) vintage finds give this house character and make it a home.

Stylist Lotta and photographer Kristofer have created a wonderfully autumnal mood and managed to highlight the drama of the house with it’s old staircase and contrasting materials. The grey-ish moss green wall colour is very much on trend and works well for their vintage finds as well as classic designer pieces.

Scandinavian modern rustic at it’s finest – I want it all.

MUBU HOME | FURNITURE AND HOMEWARES FROM MELBOURNE

30 September 2016

autralia, mubu home, furniture, homeware, scandinavian, simple, clean, design, quality, affordability, vietnam, manufacturing, danish, style, styling, trend, decor, aesthetics

Australian design has long had a fascination for me. The continent that seems further removed than any other (if you live in the UK) has a wonderful cultural mix with strong European as well as Asian influences which makes their creative scene absolutely thrive, producing some of the most innovative designs around.

MuBu Home popped up on one of my late night browsing sessions and is a case in point. Based in Melbourne the furniture and homeware company was set up by husband and wife team French/German Saskia Butin and Australian Michael Urban who met whilst they were both working in Vietnam. Michael is a very much the creative force behind MuBu who came to appreciate the Scandinavian aesthetic and concept of form and function during his time as a chef in Copenhagen before changing careers and working for an Australian furniture manufacturer that brought him to Vietnam.

When their daughter was born the couple struggled to find the kind of quality yet affordable furniture you get in Europe and Michael ended up designing and building all the nursery furniture himself. This was the catalyst to start MuBu Home and they’re now producing their own range of furniture in Vietnam as well as importing furniture by Danish designers that are manufactured in Vietnam.

Along their online store they have recently set up a bricks and mortar shop in Melbourne where Saskia and Michael love helping people furnish their home making sure their customers have a great shopping experience. Design, quality and affordability are MuBu’s cornerstones and they work closely with manufacturers to ensure there is no compromise on any of their values.

I absolutely adore MuBu’s range and their simple and clean aesthetics styled perfectly by Saskia who tells me that their future plans not only include designing more products but also coming up with a concept that combines two of their biggest passions: food and furniture.

I can’t wait!

INTERIORS CRUSH | DANIELLA WITTE AT HOME

29 September 2016

interios, interiors crush, sweden, malmö, daniella witte, stylist, photographer, blogger, restored, renovated, new and old, original details, natural materials, raw, organic, decor, decoration, country home, modern rustic

Some of my most favourite interiors I’ve featured on here have been the ones of stylists. Not surprisingly they have a knack of making their home look really good. As is the case with today’s interiors crush the home of Swedish stylist, photographer and blogger Daniella Witte who lives just outside Malmö on a former horse farm with her husband and two sons.

This was an impulse purchase that happened within 3 days and suddenly they found themselves with not just a gorgeous new home but stables, various outbuildings, paddocks and fields. They took their time and carefully restored and renovated the old house, replacing laminate flooring with original oak parquet and successfully taking out the suspended ceiling.

It’s a beautiful modern rustic space with soft neutral tones and tactile natural materials – just check out that chunky wooden table on the terrace, perfect in it’s raw organic shape.

See the whole story and read more about Daniella’s future plans for the rest of the outbuildings here.
