BEAUTIFUL STYLING WITH PLANTS

19 March 2015

I’m a huge fan of Swedish stylist Lotta Agaton and often dive into her book Colourful for some interior and styling inspiration. It’s pure eye candy for me and always leaves me feeling calm and relaxed – bit like a yoga class for the eye without any exercise.

With Spring edging ever closer I’m thinking of introducing some greenery into the home which is quite a big deal as I’m not particularly good at keeping plants alive. Plus the permanent danger from 4 little hands picking off leaves and digging up the soil fills me with dread… oh that mess!

Ok, I can get over that. Especially after spotting Lotta’s beautiful styling with plants captured by Kristofer Johnsson for Swedish Residence Magazine. Simply gorgeous.

If you’re thinking of introducing some plants into your home head over to Urban Jungle Bloggers run by my blogging buddies Judith and Igor. Between them they’ve got more than 4 green thumbs and lots of stylish ideas of how to decorate your home with some greens.

A CALM AND PURE HOME IN CAPE TOWN

25 February 2015

calm, pure, home, cape town, south africa, est magazine, isuu, online magazine, make up artist, Algria Ferreira-Watling, monastery, zen, bare, walls, floors, white washed, interior design, styling, trend, style, decor, muted colour palette, less is more

After a week of far too much work and too little time to play I’m finally back to blogging and want to share this amazing home in Cape Town with you which I discovered via one of my favourite online magazines EST.

It’s the home of make-up artist Algria Ferreira-Watling who by her own admission comes from a poor background and never dreamt of living in a palace. She says she has never needed things but instead has always wanted to live in a little house with the peaceful feel of a monastery.

A truly admirable and humbling approach to decorating, interior design and styling and in fact to the rest of the world’s drive to consumerism. Her place feels very Zen like and utterly calm and pure with bare walls and floors in a muted earthy colour palette.

Looking at her place made me take a step back and remind myself that less is more. *Sigh* but I do so like some new shoes…

MOOD BOARD | GRID LOVE

23 February 2015

mood board, trend, styling, grid, grid love, grid addict, instagram, pinterest, fashion, interiors, home, decor, aura, bedlinen, grid blanket, grid sweater, h&m home

In case you’re not an Instagram addict / blog lover / design nerd and Pinterest fanatic like me you may be surprised to find that GRIDs are totally a thing at the moment.

From socks to frocks, teatowels to bedlinen they even made their way into our kids rooms (see Suzanne’s fabulous post last week). Mostly monochrome and often reversible I’m in love with this trend and have gathered a few of my favourites on the mood board above. Do you remember that grid teatowel I bought from H&M home a couple of weeks ago… fits right in. But if I may please can I also have:

01 | This beautiful blanket as winter seems to have returned with freezing temperatures.
02 | The polo neck sweater for reasons see above.
03 | And this AURA reversible bedlinen.

MONOCHROME FAMILY TOWNHOUSE IN COPENHAGEN

12 February 2015

Do you remember the Vipp shelter from last week? I’ve just discovered that some of my favourite lifestyle images on Pinterest all originate from this monochrome family townhouse in Copenhagen.

I found the place on Dwell and it turns out that the couple who live there with their four children both work for Vipp in a senior capacity. Hence the beautifully placed products around the house.

You know grey is my favourite colour but I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to paint my whole kitchen and dining area in this dark-ish shade. Let alone dark grey kitchen units. The couple say it is their most used room of the house and that it works particularly well for entertaining as the space feels cozy and cave like. A stark contrast to the rest of the house which feels light and airy.

It’s a very monochrome and minimalist space where each piece of furniture is a (future) design classic supporting the Scandinavian tradition of ‘form follows function’ as well as the use of organic and quality materials.

My favourite room of the house has to be the home office in the attic though. Oh, how I love that butterfly chair and the old black typewriter. What a gem!

FABULOUS PREFAB HOME | STOCKHOLM

22 January 2015

prefab, prefabricated, wood, house, home, stockhom, construction, interior design, style, trend, blue, details, polished concrete, graphic pattern, rugs, mix and match, birkeboo, time and cost effective, eclectic

Oh, I do like a woman with a good business head on her shoulders and today’s home was built in just 4 months by single mother of two and midwife Anne outside Stockholm.

Her passion for building led her to start her own company Birkeboo which helps private individuals to design and build their own home. The houses are prefab in Estonia and then shipped on large trucks and constructed on site in a matter of weeks. A time and cost effective solution all built to European standards.

I like the clean and simple interior design with polished concrete floors, lots of pale wood and white walls which are a perfect backdrop for Anne’s eclectic selection of graphic pattern rugs and mix and match furniture. I’ve spotted quite a few blue details in her home which links in nicely with my ‘blue as trend’ theme this week.

I’m particularly in love with her cozy work space up in the roof overlooking the open plan kitchen and dining area. A perfect control centre for work and family life! Go Mummy!
