PEOPLE TO WATCH | THE FUTURE KEPT

Happy Monday y’all. It’s been a while since I’ve introduced some People To Watch but nestled in the south-east corner of England are husband and wife team Jeska and Dean Hearne who have created a collection of best in class products all with a story to tell under the name of The Future Kept.

Both come from a creative background and their eye for design and detail has led them to curate a selection of beautiful and useful items that are made with love by people with a passion for what they do, and a care for the future of the world we live in.

All items are designed and carefully sourced from independent designers, makers, artisans and entrepreneurs with timeless qualities inspiring a curiosity and desire within people to make more sustainable and ethical choices.

I fully endorse the fight against our throw-away society and especially during the lead up to Christmas – which often ends up in a shopping frenzy – a little thoughtfulness goes a long way. So to make your life easier I’ve selected some of my favourite goods from their site below. Frankly all their products are fantastic and for the time-poor amongst you Jeska and Dean have put together some clever gift choices for HIM and HER.

I especially love the Uashmama (pronounced wash mama) bags featured above. They look and feel like leather, but wash like a fabric and hold its form – the ultimate in promoting sustainability. The bags are designed and handcrafted in Tuscany by a company created by four sisters in homage to their Mother, who are passionate about designing nature friendly, stylish products that celebrate Tuscan tradition with innovation.

If you sign up to their mailing list you’ll even get a 10% discount – sign up and take a browse.

CHRISTMAS AT HOME WITH TOAST UK

1 December 2014

toast uk, house and home, christmas, styling, dark, moody, trend, contrast, comfy, luxurious, sexy, rustic, decor, decoration, interior design, fashion, style, trend, festive

It’s the first of December so let’s get this party started! I’ve already teased you last week with some simple and stylish Christmas DIYs and a beautiful modern rustic home full of Christmas scents in Denmark but today I’m going to get you in shopping mood.

These beautiful dark and moody Christmas shots are from one of my favourite brands, Toast UK. I’ve featured their clothes a few times on the blog but I’m equally in love with their house and home range.

Comfy and luxurious, sexy and rustic – their loungewear is made for an elegant yet relaxed Christmas, blissfully without any garish battery-powered toys or sticky fingers in sight. [I know the grass is always greener…]

I adore the styling of these shots which represent a welcome contrast to all the crisp, clean and mostly white festive decoration that is so on trend at the moment.

PLACES TO SHOP | ZOCO HOME

How awesome is this shop!? Moroccan design and home decor meets Scandinavian cool – and it totally works.

Zoco Home is based in Helsinki but you can shop their collection of unique handmade decorations like poufs, rugs, lanterns, ceramics, vintage trays and cement tiles online as they ship worldwide.

I could dive right into these photographs beautifully styled and shot by Paulina Arcklin. She has a real talent for creating a modern rustic look and I love all the textures set within this white minimalist space. A look that fits happily into any season but works especially well for Christmas I think.

I adore Paulina’s style and have featured her shots of Copenhagen furniture shop/bar/cafe Clarrods back in July. It’s another must-visit on my list.

SIMPLE AND STYLISH CHRISTMAS DIYS

24 November 2014

christmas, home, decor, decoration, ideas, tips, trends, diy, diys, simple, stylish, tasteful, minimal, quick, easy, interior design, styling, style, black and white, modern rustic, magic, cheer, jolly, season, festive, project

Last year’s Christmas DIYs post was one of my most popular ones so I thought I’d show you a couple more simple and stylish ideas to decorate your home and get you in the festive spirit without breaking the bank or taking up too much valuable shopping time.

A simple wreath made form evergreens brings immediate festive cheer to the home. No need to get it perfect, just use some nice copper wire to bind the greens together.

Counting down and lighting a candle every advent Sunday before Christmas is a real Northern European tradition. I like the minimalist style of spray painting some old bottles as candle sticks and adding large numbers. With the wax drips it’s going to look more rustic the closer it gets to the big day.

A simple and stylish wrapping idea with brown or white paper and a simple black star that can serve as a name tag. Be generous with the twine and wrap it round a few times.

There are a gazillion different fairy lights on the market but I like these simple white ones which look quite magical in a glass jar.

These pine cones are so cute dressed up with simple paper ornaments for Christmas.

Ok, this one does take a little longer if you want to make it from scratch but I love the simple triangle shape with some string to display Christmas cards, ornaments or anything else festive.

Save your money on wrapping paper this year and go for brown paper and simple string instead. Adding some evergreens will give a rustic flavour.

Last but not least, for the very time-poor amongst you, drape some fairy lights around the house, put your feet up with a nice glass of something and… relax. That’s what Christmas is all about!

COOL STUFF | THE NEW CRAFTSMEN

6 November 2014

the new craftsmen, mayfair, shop, online, london, british, tradition, emerging talents, artisanship, skills, contemporary, modern, individuality, luxury, quality, textiles, silverware, furniture, ceramics, jewellery, glassware, limited editions, sustainable, ethos

I’ve got a new shop crush: The New Craftsmen in Mayfair, London. It’s located in a striking arts and crafts building, originally designed and built as a workshop for a firm of leather breech makers. A very appropriate location since TNC represent a selection of Britain’s finest craft makers showcasing the materials, skills and craft products of the British Isles.

They currently represent a network of over 75 makers working in textiles, silverware, furniture, ceramics, jewellery, glassware and beyond selling a carefully selected range of products, limited editions and exclusive collaborations via their Mayfair shop and online.

I love their ethos which resides in artisanship, traditional skills and craft being used in contemporary ways – very on trend at the moment as we see a backlash against mass production and a return to individuality and tradition all with a modern twist.

The products are made with dedication and a real passion for materials and design. Admittedly this exceptional quality doesn’t come cheap but the attention to detail is next to none as you can see in some of the shots I’ve included below. The beauty is that these are potential design classics of the future and will last you a lifetime.

A gem of a shop, especially if you’re looking for something unique and at the same time supporting the heritage of British craftsmanship and emerging talents.
