IN THE MIX | GINGER

9 April 2014

Ginger, Root Vegetable, In The Mix, Bike, Copper, Freckles, Beard, Hairstyle, Recipe, Fresh Ginger Tea, Steamed Honey Cream, Dessert, Drink, Johnny Harrington, Mood Board

Do you like ginger? It’s a bit of a marmite vegetable I think. Love it or hate it kind of thing. I never used to be keen on the taste but since moving to London and immersing myself in all sorts of different flavours and cuisines I’ve grown to love it and wanted to share my ginger mix with you today. Can you think of any other associates that would sit well here? Happy Wednesday!

T E A / / Fresh ginger tea with steamed honey cream by alwaysorderdessert. Healthy and comforting for all those who can’t work out if they suffer from a Spring cold or hayfever – like myself.
H A I R S T Y L E / / I love the random style of this braid as well as the different shades of red. Found on Norwegian model Camilla Pihl’s blog.
H U N K / / Johnny Harrington, the former carpenter from London has morphed into a sexy bearded supermodel. Photographed by Johan Sandberg for GQ Australia.
B I K E / / Not strictly ginger but copper and totally gorgeous not just for the bike enthusiast.

AIGLE FAMILY PORTRAITS BY LOUISE DESROSIERS

8 April 2014

Aigle-Family-Portraits-Louise-Desrosiers-via-Stylejuicer-01

This post is a wonderful combination of (almost) everything I’m inspired by: clever marketing, creativity, branding, photography, fashion and style.

Today’s beautiful photography is by Louise Desrosiers who’s shots of the Amsterdam Warehouse only featured here yesterday. Looking at her portfolio I came across the quintessential French Quality brand Aigle (yes, with a capital Q) and her inspiring shots of the Schmidt-Fioro family wearing – you guessed it – Aigle boots and clothing.

The shots appear in a casual blog-like section on their website and are part of a series called ‘Family Spirit’ that showcases aspirational, creative families and their projects, day-to-day habits and what makes them stand out from the crowd.

By no means a new strategy but somehow these inviting and intimate shots make me connect with their brand in ways I didn’t before and I’ve got a fuzzy feeling that I want to be part of this campaign and maybe the easiest way would be to buy some of their clothes!? Gotcha! Or whatever the French would say instead.

A smart angle by Aigle (see what I did there) and though they haven’t managed to convince me to buy any of their product I do enjoy the reportage feel of the campaign and the voyeur in me wants to see who’s life I can pry into next. I’ll be checking back regularly et voilà… an impulse buy might, just might happen.

Clever the French, aren’t they!?

& OTHER STORIES SS14

4 April 2014

&-Other-Stories-6

How about some fashion on Friday? & Other Stories has been around for a good year now and I’m still in love with the concept.

‘This brand is for women interested in fashion who want to develop a personal style, a total look – their own story.’ Samuel Fernström – Head of & Other Stories

Sam, you’ve twisted my rubber arm! I’ve been following their tumblr-feel homepage with interest and love how they regularly add new fashion narratives. A super smart way to sell a lifestyle and feed the need for personal expression.

This Spring I’ve fallen head over heels with their adorable floral shots. If you look at my Instagram feed I think I’ve got a flower addiction or maybe this grey and rainy English winter has gotten the better of me.

On another note, as I’m getting older I enjoy seeing older and more mature models used in advertising and fashion in particular. I know I’m stating the obvious but with the rise of living expectation it’s essential for brands to speak and cater to a wide age range and I love that they feature designs to suit all ages, be it classic pieces or trend wear (I’m not even sure that’s a word but it is in my universe).

I read that & Other Stories should be seen as the cooler younger sister of the successful COS brand which is another favourite so I hope that doesn’t make me the boring older sister.

MOOD BOARD | SPRING INSPIRATION 2014

31 March 2014

Spring, UK, Mood Board, Inspiration, Ideas, Fresh, Beginnings, Love, Pale, Pink, Green, Light
I feel I’m actually a bit late with my Spring Inspiration Mood Board as the weather in the UK has been Spring-like for quite some time and we didn’t have much of a winter – just rain, rain and more rain. Which is probably why Spring looks so pretty to me this year, or maybe because it’s my first March on Pinterest and my feed keeps popping up with these wonderful inspiring images.

For me Spring is all about light, pale pinks, fresh greens and new beginnings. I might state the obvious but after the long dark months when the sun seems to be permanently hidden behind leaden skies for me March signals the end to that gloomy period.

Finally, light is flooding in again and with it all manner of flora and fauna springs to life. I think this is the perfect time to fall in love. When nature is exploding all around I can feel my own energy levels rising and want to go out and take it all in.

Wishing you all a wonderful Spring day!

RELAX – IT’S MOTHER’S DAY

30 March 2014

2014, mothers day, uk, relax, breakfast in bed

Today is Mother’s Day here in the UK and I’ve finally got a day without any commitments and I don’t even mind that we’ve got an hour less since the clocks changed to Summer Time last night!

Oh, how sweet this feeling tastes! I’m going to recharge my batteries by taking it easy today and leaving the cowboy in charge of the kids. A lie-in (of sorts), breakfast in bed (hopefully) and a spot of shopping all by myself (definitely) are vague plans for today though the main point is to take the foot off the pedal, enjoy some me-time and… relax.

Much will be said today about what an amazing job we do as mums – and yes we do, and no, I don’t know how we do it. We just do it! We get s*** done! We have to. Praise and appreciation are great but talking to a mummy friend of mine this week we both agreed that the best treat is actually having some time off from this multitasking madness and emotional roller coaster that is bringing up children in a nuclear family.

Therefore, I’d like to wish all my lovely readers and mummies a peaceful, quiet and relaxing day.

NOTE: What are your plans for today? And do you have a favourite Mother’s day treat?
