FONTE BOA HOUSE | PORTUGAL

28 December 2015

fonte boa house, architecture, lda, joao mendes ribeiro, minimal, clean, straight, framed views, considered spaces, reduced palette of materials, serenity, calm, reflect, rural setting, style, trend

After all the Christmas shenanigans I feel the need to cleanse my visual palette and this modern minimalist architecture – Fonte Boa House – is just what I’m craving right now. Designed by architects Joao Mendes Ribeiro LDA the clean, straight lines, framed views, considered spaces and a reduced palette of materials brings me back to basics and grounds me.

The rural setting away from the maddening crowds this is a great antidote to the excitement and commercial overload of Christmas and I invite you to linger over these beautiful images and dream yourself to this place of serenity and calm and maybe reflect before the year draws to a close.

Pure joy!

PEACE LOVE AND JOY

24 December 2015

christmas, festive, hygge, slow living, euphoria, presents, beach, fire, peace, love, joy, recharge batteries, stylejuicer blog, blog love

We are finally on our way east to the Baltic Sea coast after what seemed like a lifetime of ‘when are we going on the plane’ questions by the little guys.

They will have their first German Christmas experience and boy will they be delighted to discover presents on Christmas Eve as well as filled stockings on Christmas Day.

We are all so ready for some rest and recreation after the last couple of weeks and looking forward to Oma’s home cooking and catching up with friends and family. I’ll be embracing ‘hygge’ and happily let myself fall into that Bermuda triangle of no reception that seems to engulf our small village.

Slow living at it’s finest with the local radio station belting out a combo of 80ies Christmas pop and classical hymns. Walks by the beach and in the woods followed by coffee and cake and watching the fire. Sounds blissful? Well, due to high sugar levels I think we might just have a tantrum or twenty to keep us from drifting into romantic euphoria. And of course there’s a fifth birthday to celebrate right after Christmas – never get’s dull around here.

So before I go I’d like to thank you all for popping by this year, leaving comments and spreading the Stylejuicer love. May you all have restful festive days and recharge those batteries with peace, love and joy.

MELO STUDIO | HANDCRAFTED MINIMALISM

21 December 2015

melo studio, swedish, sweden, quality craftsmanship, solid wood, minimalism, humble, aesthetics, pared back, beautifully finished, desk, stool, mirror, style, trend, interiors, interior design, styling

I want to introduce you to Melo Studio today. A new Swedish furniture brand that focuses on minimalism, removing all unnecessary details and combining it with quality craftsmanship using only the best materials and paying immaculate attention to detail.

They call their aesthetics ‘humble minimalism’ aiming to create a modest look and enabling their products to blend into your own environment.

The photography had me at hello and I’m itching to run my hands over their beautifully finished products. Needless to say I’m a fan of their pared back design and love the fact that they only use solid wood. Isn’t that desk gorgeous with the angled edges and v-shaped legs!? I can’t wait to see more of them.

MOODY NORDIC APARTMENT

18 December 2015

Moody-Swedish-Apartment-by-Kristofer-Johnsson-01

It’s the last day of school and before the kids take over at home – no doubt causing utter chaos and mayhem – I’d like to share this beautiful nordic apartment with you, shot by Kristofer Johnsson for Residence magazine and styled by Alexandra Ogonowski.

I like the calm dark greys in combination with some petrol blue and dark green accents coming through in the furniture and soft furnishings. The moody lighting in the shots reflects these darker months where we don’t see much of the sun here in Northern Europe (and even less in Scandinavia) but it also evokes a cozy, hibernating feeling which the Danish describe as ‘hygge’.

The term is perfectly explained on VisitDenmark.com: “In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family – that’s hygge too. There’s nothing more hygge than sitting round a table, discussing the big and small things in life. Perhaps hygge explains why the Danes are the happiest people in the world?”

Funny how a single word can have such transformative power and make me mind these dark grey days a little less. Hope you have some hygge going on at home. <3   Moody-Swedish-Apartment-by-Kristofer-Johnsson-02
