MOOD BOARD | SPRING INSPIRATION 2014

31 March 2014

Spring, UK, Mood Board, Inspiration, Ideas, Fresh, Beginnings, Love, Pale, Pink, Green, Light
I feel I’m actually a bit late with my Spring Inspiration Mood Board as the weather in the UK has been Spring-like for quite some time and we didn’t have much of a winter – just rain, rain and more rain. Which is probably why Spring looks so pretty to me this year, or maybe because it’s my first March on Pinterest and my feed keeps popping up with these wonderful inspiring images.

For me Spring is all about light, pale pinks, fresh greens and new beginnings. I might state the obvious but after the long dark months when the sun seems to be permanently hidden behind leaden skies for me March signals the end to that gloomy period.

Finally, light is flooding in again and with it all manner of flora and fauna springs to life. I think this is the perfect time to fall in love. When nature is exploding all around I can feel my own energy levels rising and want to go out and take it all in.

Wishing you all a wonderful Spring day!

RELAX – IT’S MOTHER’S DAY

30 March 2014

2014, mothers day, uk, relax, breakfast in bed

Today is Mother’s Day here in the UK and I’ve finally got a day without any commitments and I don’t even mind that we’ve got an hour less since the clocks changed to Summer Time last night!

Oh, how sweet this feeling tastes! I’m going to recharge my batteries by taking it easy today and leaving the cowboy in charge of the kids. A lie-in (of sorts), breakfast in bed (hopefully) and a spot of shopping all by myself (definitely) are vague plans for today though the main point is to take the foot off the pedal, enjoy some me-time and… relax.

Much will be said today about what an amazing job we do as mums – and yes we do, and no, I don’t know how we do it. We just do it! We get s*** done! We have to. Praise and appreciation are great but talking to a mummy friend of mine this week we both agreed that the best treat is actually having some time off from this multitasking madness and emotional roller coaster that is bringing up children in a nuclear family.

Therefore, I’d like to wish all my lovely readers and mummies a peaceful, quiet and relaxing day.

NOTE: What are your plans for today? And do you have a favourite Mother’s day treat?

COOL STUFF | IKEA PS STORAGE 2014

28 March 2014

Ikea-PS-2014-via-Share-Design-09

Amongst other oddities I have a slight obsession with storage, putting things away, organising and labelling – so I use the term slight loosely in this context.

Imagine my delight when I saw that IKEA have extended their PS storage collection this year. Every piece comes from a select group of designers working in collaboration with the in-house design team so you get the best of both worlds: Flat pack heaven (or hell) on one side and cutting edge design on the other.

In case you wondered I actually love putting those flat packs together. To me it’s a giant jigsaw puzzle for adults and I feel just a little bit smug when every last screw is used and I can add another allen key to my growing collection.

Favourites from the IKEA PS storage collection are the Ewall Shelf by Keiji Ashizawa and the Ebenchi by Anna Efverlundi. Lovely to see the company evolving with their customers but let’s hope they’re going to keep the iconic little man you can find on every instruction manual.

INTERIORS CRUSH | BOHEMIAN INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

26 March 2014

Bohemian, Lille, Industrial, Relaxed, Character, DIY, Flea Market Finds, Concrete, Interior Design, Personality, Inviting, Family Home

This might not seem like my usual INTERIORS CRUSH but the space, the sheer space had me at ‘hello’. Just look at it! There’s so much of it! Proper S P A C E ! Wow! You could have an orchestra playing in it and still fit an audience of about 100 people in it. Well, maybe a small-ish orchestra.

This is not to say that it’s too big. Quite the opposite. Fanny and Pascal Francois have managed to transform this former factory in Lille, Belgium into a warm and welcoming family home thanks to their wonderfully eclectic and bohemian industrial sense of style.

The piece de resistance for me is the converted fishmongers bench into the mother of all kitchen islands including a sink. Pure genius and what a perfect fit!

Avid flea market hunters and DIYers the vast majority of the furniture is reclaimed or custom made to fit their specific needs. I love the vast open-plan kitchen / dining / living area with deliberately mismatched chairs around a handmade table by Pascal himself. Have you noticed that there’s space for 10 people – easily! T E N ! Living in a city where space is at a premium I can only dream of dinner parties that size.

Oh, did I mention that Pascal is an architect? So gutting the downstairs area and re-organising the layout was kind of a must. The other musts were replacing the industrial style windows with identical insulted ones (very sensible), pouring a polished concrete floor (very cool) and sandblasting / white-washing the brickwork (very boho) to keep the industrial look of the space.

With their personal eclectic and often colourful touches the space is transformed and becomes a warm and welcoming family home. I love the colourful vases and bottles lined up along the window sill which only work if your kids have reached a certain age… You guessed, we’re not there yet but I can dream.

Welcome to a new column. IN THE MIX is going to pop up weekly and focus on a theme close to my heart. Being a bit of a Pinterest and Bloglovin addict I come across so many great things to share that I needed a vehicle to bring them to you in a structured way. A bit like sorting out the crockery by shapes, colour and sizes. And yes, I do like to make sure the handles all face in one direction.

So, just leaves me to say enjoy today’s mix of adorable super cute kids stuff.
