The newly revamped Native Hotel in Malibu makes me long for some sunshine and laid back luxury especially now the days are getting shorter here and the weather is turning grey and rainy.
It’s an elegant combination of rustic surf shack chic and simple contemporary clean lines in this mid century cluster of single storey bungalows. The lobby glows in white washed walls with some carefully selected vintage pieces sitting comfortably next to modern furniture. I love the original wooden ceiling beams and feel a strange sense of wanting to stroke the beautiful polished concrete floor.
The laid back mix of old and new continues in the individual bungalows which are painted in contemporary anthracite grey and feature some funky number lights. Colour and texture is added mostly with soft furnishings from custom made Kente cloth bathrobes to hand dyed rugs and vintage ice chests.
What I wouldn’t give to while away a lazy afternoon in the custom made hammock.
And if you long for some more boutique hotel luxury have a look at the San Giorgio in Mykonos or the Bruecke 49 in Vals, Switzerland.
