MODERN CHRISTMAS IN DENMARK

12 December 2015

The countdown to Christmas has begun and though I’ve got a million and one things to do (doesn’t everyone!?) I’m easing myself into this weekend with a stylish and modern Christmas home in Denmark.

It’s the home of Christina Kattrup Schroeder, journalist, stylist and co-owner of havealook.dk who lives here with her husband and some of their seven children who haven’t flown the nest yet. And frankly why would you if it’s this lovely!?

I can’t work out if I’m more in love with the white washed walls, dark rustic beams and contemporary furniture or the actual Christmas decor which is wonderfully understated using lots of natural branches with simple decorations kept mainly in neutral tones.

It shows that you can achieve the most subtle and stylish Christmas atmosphere with a few stars, branches, baubles and Christmas trees. It’s material, scale and contrast that makes it interesting and takes skill and experience to put together but after all Christina is an interior stylist.

INTERIORS CRUSH | STYLING BY JOSEFIN HAAG

27 November 2015

interiors crush, interior design, style, trend, styling, josefin haag, kristofer johnsson, photography, clean, modern, bright, simple, mixed up furniture, homely feel, city apartment, sweden, stockholm

Josefin Haag is fast becoming one of my favourite stylists. Her blog 20kvadrat is a great source of inspiration and I recently found this gem of an apartment on there which she styled for Residence Magazine and was shot by the talented Kristofer Johnsson.

The bright and clean vibe is right up my street and I love the neutral colour scheme with mixed up furniture from designer and IKEA to flea market finds. It gives the place an interesting edge and as well as immediate homely feel.

As small city apartments go this is a real interiors crush for me.

A STUDIO APARTMENT BRIMMING WITH GREENERY

16 October 2015

studio, apartment, greenery, playful, integration, plants, urban jungle bloggers, community, trend, style, stand out, cosy, interior design, decor

This tiny studio apartment caught my eye because of the playful way plants have been integrated into the interior design. You might have heard of Urban Jungle Bloggers run by my blogging buddies Judith and Igor and I think this would be a great fit for their community – kinda living with plants taken to the extreme in a small space.

After my initial gasp at the greenery my second thought was that it looked too messy for me but on reflection this messy interior gives a really cosy feel and is a deliberate choice by the stylist I’m sure.

After all this studio is up for sale on Stadshem and it sure stands out amongst the tidy, clean and streamlined interiors.

HIGHLAND LODGE BY SUZY HOODLESS

14 October 2015

highland lodge, suzy hoodless, steel, glass, granite, mashe safdie, architects, scotland, interior design, decor, juxtapose, scandinavian furniture, bespoke pieces, mirrored side table

Hard to believe that this modern Highland Lodge made from granite, steel and glass by American architect Moshe Safdie is an actual family home, albeit at the end of a 13 mile drive in the Scottish Highlands.

British interior designer Suzy Hoodless expertly managed to juxtapose the interior finishes with the rugged beauty of the landscape. I adore the use of contrasting elements like the antlers and traditional marble bench or the modern fireplace in the sitting room with it’s concave pink mirror above surrounded by a group of colourful and comfortable looking sofas.

The pared back interior and clean lines of this one-of-a-kind Highland Lodge are very nordic and provide a great stage for Scandinavian furniture mixed with bespoke pieces.

I’m absolutely mesmerised by the angular mirrored side table with it’s reflections – almost a piece of art in itself though I think I would continually feel the need to polish.

PEOPLE TO WATCH | COPENHAGEN MOBEL SNEDKERI

2 October 2015

interior design, furniture, cabinets, kitchen, bathroom, smoked oak, master craftsman, skills, carpentry, craftsmanship, mobel snedkeri, copenhagen, bespoke kitchen, storage solutions, walk in closet, trend, style, design, wood, residence magazine, kim dolva

The smell of wood is so evocative for me that I was immediately drawn into this story I found on Residence Magazine. Kim Dolva is a master craftsman who cleverly talked his way into working at a guitar workshop when he was 19 because he loved the smell of wood, the craftsman’s passion and attention to detail. After an excursion into the world of graphic design he eventually started Kobenhavns Mobel Snedkeri seven years ago with Søren Jespersen whom he met during his studies.

His office and showroom is a *dream* displaying individual products like chairs, tables and beds as well as customised kitchens, bathrooms and storage solutions. Clients from all round the world now line up for the bespoke service and he’s going to add pieces he picks up on his travel to his shop alongside the showroom in Copenhagen to complete the ‘look’.

His own home has a modern rustic feel with stark white walls, ceilings and floors focussing the attention on his craftsmanship with stunning cabinets and a walk-in closet Carrie Bradshaw would die for. The kitchen units are made of solid smoked oak with hand carved brass knobs and drawers with solid carved insets for utensils to nestle into.

Is it wrong that I want to stroke it all!?
