IKEA | CONSCIOUS LIVING

IKEA has done it again! Captured the Zeitgeist and given us just what we crave right now: uniqueness, tactility and sustainability. All under the umbrella brand of CONSCIOUS LIVING.

The sign of a brand leader is to be able to read market trends and anticipate what people want just before it drops into their consciousness and IKEA, just as APPLE, is a master at sniffing out and mass-producing trends.

The upcoming Sinnerlig collection by designer Ilse Crawford consists of pieces that engage our senses and connect us to our homes. Working with renewable and natural material like cork, bamboo and glass she has created some wonderful tactile and functional furniture.

The collection also includes vases that are all given different treatments during production therefore each one has a unique look celebrating the imperfections that arise during the process.

I can’t wait for Sinnerlig to hit the shops in August.

LAURA THOMAS LINENS | SCENTED SUMMER CANDLE

18 May 2015

Laura Thomas Linens, for the home, scented, soy candle, flowers, natural soy wax, burns longer and cleaner, biodegradable, natural renewable source, garden, new zealand, orange, lemon, neroli, essential oils, uplifting invigorating effect, trend, style, decor, home scent

I’ve written about mumpreneur Laura Thomas Linens on here before and I was thrilled when she contacted me to test her new scented soy candle ‘flowers’.

Laura puts so much thought, effort and care into everything she produces I knew I’d love it and sure enough this scent is a stunner! All candles are made with 100% natural soy wax, essential oils and high grade fragrance as well as hand-poured by Laura in her studio in Gullane, Scotland. Soy wax is non-toxic and burns longer and cleaner than paraffin which is better for you and the environment. They are also biodegradable and stem from the soybean which is a natural renewable source.

With the summer candle Laura tried to re-create the scents of her garden in New Zealand which had over 30 orange, lemon and grapefruit trees within it. The delicate combination of rose, neroli and lemon all conjure up spring and summer and have an uplifting and invigorating effect which I tried to convey in my shots.

I just wish screens had a scratch and smell option as my blogging buddy Cate St.Hill pointed out.

COOL STUFF | GARDEN WISH LIST VIA ARTILLERIET

2 May 2015

Artilleriet, webshop, home wares, for the home, style, trend, garden, outdoor, gardening, apron, lemon tree, equipment, pots, daybed, wish list, decor, utility, contemporary design, vintage one-off finds, quality materials, modern rustic living

And here comes part two of my love-in with Artilleriet. I didn’t want to bombard you yesterday which is why I’ve split up my wish lists.

Today’s selection features everything I need for the garden which I’m hoping will get me in the mood for some gardening this weekend. Well, not everything of course but the all the nice bits that make gardening so much more pleasant. How gorgeous is that lemon tree!? I’ve got to have one as it works inside as well as outside – I just hope the fruit isn’t too much of a temptation for little scavengers hanging around the house.

I love Artilleriet’s mix of modern and contemporary brands such as Aesop to Muutu and Hay as well as artisan up and coming designer/makers that provokes the consumer to pop in again and again to check out new stock.

I’m sure I’ll be a regular.

COOL STUFF | FOR THE KITCHEN VIA ARTILLERIET

1 May 2015

Artilleriet, webshop, home wares, for the home, style, trend, kitchen, wish list, decor, utility, contemporary design, vintage one-off finds, quality materials, blackline collection, bread cutting tray, stone washed cutlery, marble pots

I think I may have found my perfect home wares webshop for Modern Rustic Living. Artilleriet is a Swedish store that sells an eclectic mix of one-off vintage finds and contemporary products in innovative and classic designs.

Their curation is outstanding and has a contemporary scandinavian feel to it with form following function, the use of quality materials and a sense that great care has been taken to produce each individual piece.

Here’s a little selection for my kitchen wish list with the black wooden chopping boards and the bread cutting tray fighting for the top spot. Closely followed by the stone washed cutlery set and the marble pots. Oh, that would look soooo good in my kitchen and on my table.

Interestingly, the wood items in the Blackline Collection utilise a natural reactive process to give them their distinct dark finish, no pigments are used and it is totally food safe. Sold!

FOR THE HOME | SKAPHA

20 April 2015

sweden, swedish, skapha, Jönköpping, hand made, homeware, brand, muted colour palette, texture, recycled cotton jersey, knitted, crochet, pinterest, facebook, for the home, home decor, style, trend

Oh, I love coming across new brands so let’s kick the week off with Skapha, a Swedish homeware brand who knit and crochet all of their products from 100% recycled cotton jersey! Incredibly, it’s all made by hand in Jönköpping, right in the middle of Sweden.

The designs are stylish and simple and feature in a muted colour palette ranging from white, beige and navy to different shades of grey. Personally, I love the knitted cushions and I’m hoping they’re going to add some throws to their collection which would add some great texture to the home.

You can view the products on Skapha’s Pinterest or Facebook pages as the website is currently just a holding page.
