FAMILY HOME IN IBIZA WITH POPS OF COLOUR

The gorgeous hot weather lately has inspired me to put some pops of colour on the blog. This house on the Balearic island of Ibiza belongs to a Dutch couple and their children who are lucky to call this home.

Summer is all about lightness, relaxing, slow living, enjoyment and experiencing the outdoors, connecting with nature and observing the blooms, the sun and shade. Without getting too poetic it’s sort of natures crescendo before the slow wind down for Autumn and Winter.

For me colour and especially bright pops of colour work really well in a hot climate as they reflect the vegetation, skies and sea that surrounds them. With so much sunlight around us colour gets blown out and you can afford to turn up the colour dial to max.

Despite the carefully chosen pops of colour the couple have maintained the rustic charm of the place by simply painting some ceiling beams white and white-washing the brick herringbone flooring. Traditional Spanish houses have small windows which you can see in the bedroom but by painting the inside entirely in white even small amounts of light is reflected around the room giving an airy feel.

Though I’m a committed monochrome I can’t help but like this house – or maybe the heat has just gone to my head.

INTERIORS CRUSH | QUIRKY AND RUSTIC HOME IN IBIZA

29 August 2014

Ibiza-Luis-Galliussi-by-Ricardo-Labougle-01

Oh, this door – it had me at hello. I’m currently totally crushing on renovated holiday homes with rustic original features and this home in Ibiza got me dreaming about a September holiday in the Med.

It’s the perfect month for me. The crowds are gone, the sun has lost it’s intensity and you don’t have to reserve a sunbed with your towel the night before. Being German I’m sensitive about this cliché and for the record I’ve never knowingly taken part in such appalling behaviour.

So, come and soak up some sun and relaxed holiday vibes through these gorgeous photographs by Ricardo Labougle. The owner is interior designer Luis Galliussi who renovated and extended this simple peasant house set back from the party atmosphere amongst fig and olive trees. In addition to the stunning infinity pool he added a living room with fireplace and two bedrooms with bathrooms, all in the traditional cubic style so the house nestles quietly into the countryside.

His quirky choices of furniture and bright colours are refreshing and I get the impression he just had some fun with this project. Where else would you find garden gnomes, an umbrella above the dining table and army style camouflage pillows in the guest bedroom?

I like this home that’s simple and unassuming on the outside but hides so many treasures on the inside, presenting relaxed country loving with a twinkle in the eye.

And don’t get me started on that kitchen island… #dreamy

IBIZA HOLIDAY HOME INSPIRED BY MIES VAN DER ROHE

1 August 2014

Ibiza-home-via-Nuevo-Estillo-01

After yesterday’s colourful summer fashion I’m going to hit you with even more colour today – found via Nuevo Estillo.

This stunning Ibiza holiday home has been sensitively restored so the original inspiration of Villa Tugendhat – by German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe – is being kept alive.

Van der Rohe famously adopted the phrase ‘Less is more’ as a precept to describe minimalist design and if my Spanish (and Google translate) don’t let me down the villa is divided into two distinct volumes: Open and transparent for the communal areas, connecting the inside and outside and a more opaque and compact one for the private quarters. An idea that was radical at the time but now seems to be the norm if you look at contemporary architecture.

I like how the colour blue subtly weaves like a thread through the interior in different shades and materials, from the rug patterns to artwork, cushions and blinds to – ultimately – the sky and sea, connecting interior and exterior.

This blue theme in combination with the dominating white interior is inspired by nature and gives a fresh summery feel that has been adopted all around the Med, especially Greece. A classic combination that I will never get bored of and spells holiday for me – with a capital ‘H’. Are you dreaming yet?
