MOOD BOARD | LIVE WITH LESS

To Live With Less sure is easier said than done. After all I kind of need nice decorative things around me…

I was first attracted to the typography but then got thinking about what it means to Live With Less. For me this is about paring back, de-cluttering and making conscious decisions which things to keep and which ones to part with. As we’re slowly moving towards a new season maybe this is the time for me to have a clear out and re-organize my wardrobe. It somehow always feels cathartic…

What about you? Are you a hoarder or can you part with stuff easily?

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

AIAYU | AN INNOVATIVE, ETHICAL AND GREEN BRAND

8 September 2014

aiayu, fashion, home, brand, danish, eco friendly, environment, llama, wool, knitwear, classic, design, style, trend, unique, long lasting, ethical, simplicity, value chain, cultural heritage, tradition

AIAYU is one of those brands I’ve been admiring from afar for a while now. Their philosophy of ‘Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication’ resonates deeply with me and their eco-friendly and ethical credentials are
exemplary for the fashion industry.

Back in 2004 Maria and Marie, the two Danish founders, came up with the idea to introduce sustainable knitwear of a superior quality in classic designs rather than fast moving trends. They found a previously unknown llama wool quality in Bolivia which is unique in its softness and less prone to pill due to the long fibres of the llama and became the first brand to introduce this kind of processed llama wool to the fashion industry in 2006. Maria says:

‘Concentrating on exploring one material with one producer has given us a very unique understanding and knowledge of the beautiful potential of the llama wool. It gives us the best of the best, and keeps our concept strong and transparent. Instead of being distracted by the billions of possibilities within fashion, all inspiration and energy is put into making each product unique, beautiful and long lasting.’

To keep the value chain transparent and nimble they have decided to use just one supplier from the manual sorting of the raw fibres to spinning, dying, knitting, packing and shipping – it’s all in-house. Therefore cultural heritage and the tradition of knitting is preserved and job opportunities created with fair contracts and working conditions in the remote highlands of Bolivia.

Their eco-friendly approach is holistic taking every aspect of the production into account including a water treatment plant to clean the waste water as well as biodegradable packaging and recycled paper for all their printed marketing materials.

At the upmarket end of the fashion spectrum it’s little touches that make all the difference and for me it’s in form of two initials beautifully stitched into the garment – a greeting from the knitter to you and a sign how every piece is hand-finished with great love and care. No wonder they’re calling their hand knitted items a ‘piece of art’.

In case you wondered, AIAYU means soul in the native tongue of the indigenous people in Bolivia, and was a name carefully picked by the workers.

A wonderful concept and I’m proud to share some of their AW home and knitwear range with you today.

SUMMER FASHION BY COVER MAGAZINE

31 July 2014

Lone-Praesto-By-Rasmus-Skousen-For-Cover-June-July-2014-1

The weather has been beautiful here in London the past couple of weeks and I’m head over heels in holiday mode. Only a few weeks till we go and stay with family in Northern Germany and hopefully get to hang out at the beach every day playing football, swimming, catching fish and gorging on ice cream and chips – it’s holiday after all.

These shots by Danish fashion magazine COVER give a lovely flavour of summer, sun, sea and recharging batteries, found thanks to fashion blog Studded Hearts. I love the vibrant turquoise colour of the sea and the cool but casual summer fashion worn by Lone Praesto from Sweden and photographed by Rasmus Skousen.

Wishing you a happy sunny day!

INSPIRED BY CHAGALL | NOCH MINI AW 2014/15

23 July 2014

You might remember me introducing you to NOCH Mini, the boutique NYC based childrens wear brand a few weeks ago featuring their SS collection with the most adorable little models.

Well, guess what!? The cute models – who are the designer’s daughter and her friend – are back and you can get a glimpse of their latest innovative designs for AW shot by Woo Jin Hwang in a warehouse in Queens, NYC. This time the collection is inspired by Marc Chagall’s dreamy ‘Esquisse pour la vie’ painting, referencing the circus with jester-like harlequin pants, animated loop stitch knits resembling fur, carnival garland printed tops and bear-ear hats.

I’m not always a big fan of themes as I tend to go for classic designs that transcend seasons but the beautiful details and super soft, sustainable organic fabrics make NOCH stand out this AW.

NOCH MINI ORGANIC CLOTHING FROM NYC

24 June 2014

Noch-Mini-SS2014-Kids-Corner-via-Stylejuicer-01

NOCH Mini is another great find that popped into my Pinterest feed via Peggy from Paul et Paula. I love the simple look book shots that show off their stylish clothes and I’m totally in love with these little models – they could sell me anything!

The brand is very environmentally conscious and most of their collection is made locally in New York City using only certified organic materials and low-impact dyes. In their own words:

We are committed to designing beautiful, well-made, simple, yet sophisticated clothes for children. We also believe in protecting our body and environment from harsh chemical pollutants. Soft on our children’s skin, only highest quality organic materials are carefully selected and transformed into NOCH’s collection.

I like their simple cuts, innovative designs and attention to detail which makes them stand out from the crowd. Another example of how children’s clothes don’t have to stick to stereotypical colour palettes. Thanks Peggy for the inspiration!
