It’s the last day of school and before the kids take over at home – no doubt causing utter chaos and mayhem – I’d like to share this beautiful nordic apartment with you, shot by Kristofer Johnsson for Residence magazine and styled by Alexandra Ogonowski.
I like the calm dark greys in combination with some petrol blue and dark green accents coming through in the furniture and soft furnishings. The moody lighting in the shots reflects these darker months where we don’t see much of the sun here in Northern Europe (and even less in Scandinavia) but it also evokes a cozy, hibernating feeling which the Danish describe as ‘hygge’.
The term is perfectly explained on VisitDenmark.com: “In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family – that’s hygge too. There’s nothing more hygge than sitting round a table, discussing the big and small things in life. Perhaps hygge explains why the Danes are the happiest people in the world?”
Funny how a single word can have such transformative power and make me mind these dark grey days a little less. Hope you have some hygge going on at home. <3
