PLACES TO GO | USINE, STOCKHOLM

7 September 2015

Places-To-Go-Usine-ArchDaily-01

Morning peeps! After last week’s launch of Wild Boys & Girls I’ve got my interiors hat on today and want to share this beautiful former sausage factory in Stockholm with you.

Renovated by renowned designer Richard Lindvall this brand new concept is called Usine and houses a restaurant, bar, cafe, take away, reception and conference spaces. Tough the menu is mostly french the interior combines Scandinavian minimalism with an industrial edge. Lindvall admits “I was a bit afraid of making it too cold, it was important to create a warmth in the environments, but still keep it raw and fresh.”

I don’t think he needs to worry. The space is a great success in my eyes and just confirms my desire to pay the Swedish capital a visit.

HEADING WEST FOR THE SUMMER

9 July 2015

heading west, colorado, denver, rocky mountains, aspen, country, cowboy, usa, family time, chilling, relaxing, manhattan, new york city, high adrenaline, moma, high line, cafes, bars, restaurants, central park, brooklyn, style, travel, stylejuicer

Phew… the last few weeks (months acutally) have been ridiculously crazy round here.

Preparing for the launch of my new kids apparel and decor brand Wild Boys & Girls in September has taken up pretty much most evenings and nights. Plus keeping the blog going as well as Instagram updates and making sure our two little primates are kept happy and entertained… well, it’s been a bit too stressful for my liking.

However, we’re finally heading west on our big summer adventure to the USA which should bring some much needed rest and relaxation. First stop Colorado to spend time with family including a little trip to Aspen before catching up with some very special friends from San Francisco. Both our families have doubled in size since we last saw each other and I’m looking forward to getting all the new kiddies together. Dad Stevie is an amazing photographer and I’m hoping he’ll let me share some pics on here.

Most of all I’m looking forward to experiencing the mountains, countryside, people and culture and am hoping to meet up with some lovely Instagram friends. Talking of which and provided there’s wifi I’ll be posting regularly on IG so you can follow along if you fancy.

Our trip will be a game of two halves: Rugged countryside to adrenaline fulled city life in New York City and I’m beyond excited about staying with lovely friends in Manhattan. Looking at my list of things to do I won’t have time to sleep – who does in this city!? Yeah, right! All those sights, museums, cafes, restaurants and quirky little shops and corners to explore and most of all people watching – I can not wait!

I was young free and single when I first explored this crazy city so this time round it’ll be very different with two little dudes and a Cowboy in tow but I’m hoping that little treats along the way will keep all three happy.

If you have any last minute tips for me hop over to IG and let me know.

DREAM HOLIDAY HOME | ‘FIVE COLUMNS’ ESSAOUIRA

2 July 2015

dream holiday home, restored house, Essaouira, marrakech, morocco, worlds best surfing, unspoilt beaches, medina, renovation, restoration, paulina arcklin, simple, contemporary, ethnic, chic, style, travel, wifi, fully equipped kitchen, sleeps 8 people, wet rooms, sunny terrace, authentic, culture

The dream holiday home series continues with a beautifully restored 200 year old house in Morocco. The Five Columns is a 2.5hr drive from Marrakech in the laid back resort of Essaouira which I read has got some of the world’s best surfing and unspoilt sandy beaches as a well a bustling Medina with bakeries and fruit stalls all within a five minute walking distance.

The house has recently gone through a complete renovation and sympathetically restored retaining it’s original features such as the 5 sand stone columns that give the place it’s name. The shots are taken by one of my favourite photographers, Paulina Arcklin, whose personal style fits perfectly with the restored house: simple, contemporary, ethnic and chic. I even like the way she’s water marked all the images with her signature – true Paulina!

It’s a stunning home from home with a luxurious and comfortable feel and I can imagine going there with a group of friends for a relaxing holiday to soak up some authentic Moroccan culture and style with great cooking provided at extra cost by a local lady.

The fully equipped kitchen, central dining area and cosy fire place should make it easy to relax and feel at home straight away. They even have wifi and an iPod dock for those who don’t want to be off the grid. And the sunny terrace on the second floor has got sun loungers and an open-plan bar.

Does this have party written all over it!? There are 4 double bedrooms comfortably sleeping 8 people with en suite wet rooms. To find out more click here.

PLACES TO GO | THE KETTLE BLACK

3 June 2015

australia, the kettle black, melbourne, hip, trendy, interior design, studio you me, scandinavian influence, clena lines, warm oak, soft tones, mint green accents, material mix, textures, victorian, contemporary, urban, destination cafe, style, trend

Another Aussie find today: The Kettle Black is one of Melbourne’s hippest addresses when it comes to coffee and breakfast and in a city that lives and breathes coffee snobbery that’s saying something!

The elegant, light filled interior has been designed by Studio You Me and has strong Scandinavian influences with clean lines, warm oak and soft tones with mint green accents. I adore the mixture of textures that range from polished concrete and hexagonal tiles to wooden wall panelling and feature wallpaper. The material mix works extremely well combining the traditional Victorian facade with a contemporary urban vibe and creating a new genre of a destination cafe.

So, if you happen to be in the area, pop in and let me know if it’s true what they say about those pancakes. They’re meant to be quite something.

PLACES TO GO | VILLA VERGELLE, TUSCANY

24 April 2015

Villa-Vergelle-Tuscany-via-Stylejuicer-01

All this Spring sunshine has started to make me think about holidays and as if by magic – other might say serendipity – Villa Vergelle pops up.

Turns out I’ve admired this holiday rental for a good 5 months now as it’s featured on the cover of Country Living’s Modern Rustic issue #02 [can’t wait for issue #03 which should be out any day now] so I was ecstatic to find some more photos online.

This Italian country home is a great example of adapting an old house and making it fit for 21st century living. The interior features industrial elements like exposed steel girders, pipes and ceiling lighting as well as polished concrete flooring and a hand-built kitchen with cabinets made from wide recycled planks and open shelving.

The layout is family friendly with a large kitchen / dining / living area on the ground floor and super cool in-built bunk beds for the kiddos upstairs. All beds, cabinets and shelves are custom-built from recycled wood and I love the worn, slightly burnt patina which contrasts so well with the industrial elements.

A dream home for me and a successful renovation project where the owners sensitively opened up the previously small windows to let in more light and added wooden shutters to control the heat in the height of summer.

You can book a stay in this delightful luxury space via SpecialUmbria.
