EAST VILLAGE | SHOPPING & STYLING

4 February 2015

East village, London, east, E20, shopping centre, shopping, westfield, athletes village, newest neighbourhood, closer than you think, shopping voucher, kitchen accessories, best new place to live, planning awards

A few weeks ago Get Living London, who redeveloped the Olympic Athlete’s Village, invited a few select bloggers to come and join them for breakfast in London’s newest neighbourhood – aka East Village – with a spot of recreational shopping in the adjacent Westfield shopping centre thrown in.

You can imagine I jumped at the chance to head east and explore the area whilst connecting with some fellow London bloggers. Having just moved a month ago I bought some nice kitchen accessories with my shopping voucher and couldn’t resist styling my finds in one of their gorgeous show homes on the tenth floor.

Needless to say the views were amazing across the Olympic Stadium, Canary Wharf and The City but what impressed me most was how well designed and planned everything is. Transport, green spaces, schools, health services it’s all easily accessible and I love the fact that they’ll be renting out over 30 retail units to independents so I’m expecting some artisan coffee shops and bakeries next time I visit.

If you want to see more about our day – or see me on camera (*cringe*) – check out the video below. My fellow bloggers were bubbly fashion queens Lauren & Felicity from Pretty, Posh, Oh My Gosh! and lovely Katherine from Lady Loves Cake.

FERM LIVING SS2015 COLLECTION | BLUE NOTES

19 January 2015

ferm living, ss2015, spring summer, collection, range, graphic, blue, trend, style, decor, home, vases, prints, wooden building blocks, danish, denmark, clean, simple, modern, aesthetics, online

Happy Monday to y’all and let’s dive into the latest Ferm Living SS 2015 Collection. It’s so bitterly cold here in London at the moment that I’m clinging onto anything that has Spring/Summer in the title and promises warmer temperatures.

Ferm continues what it’s doing best: well-crafted design for everyday living. I love the aesthetic of their products and have picked some shots that particularly resonate with me and will make you want to dive into the whole collection online.

Blue seems to be a real trend for SS – you’ll see further proof of that in tomorrow’s post – but for now I’d like to point out the other trend I’ve noticed which is having vases in different sizes and heights as a collection of objects as well as for traditional flower display. Something I came across in my recent post about the Ruutu vases for Iittala as well.

Ferm Living always inspires me with their strong graphic language across their whole range from bedroom to living room, kitchen, office and kids room their prints are instantly recognisable and their popular handmade rugs now come in new versions. The kids stuff is adorable as ever and I love the wooden building blocks and embroidered cushions.

More Spring Summer blues from one of my favourite fashions brands tomorrow.

RUUTU VASES FOR IITTALA

10 January 2015

ruutu, vases, collection, design, glassware, mouth blown, iittala, finnish, delicate, fluid, watercolour, vibrant, arrangement, installation, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, french, for the home, interior, home decor, decorate

I’m not normally a fan of coloured glass but somehow I find myself fascianted by these diamond-shaped Ruutu vases designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Finnish design brand Iittala.

It’s a collection of 10 vases in five sizes and seven watercolour tones, which fit together in different arrangements to overlay the colours. As the photography demonstrated they can look stunning in a simple setting with light flooding through the delicate handblown glass. The designers explain their concept:

We were seeking to express the purity of glass blowing in this simple diamond shape. We wanted to show the sophisticated range of Iittala colours while at the same time handing the job over to the user who will feel tempted to have several modules to create his or her own individual assemblage.

I like the playful nature and the delicate tones of the different vases which look just as stunning with or without displaying flowers.

I know I’m jumping the gun a bit since we’re still in the middle of winter but I’m craving some greens and the latest Tine K home collection hit the spot with me.

I love the styling of the products set against a back drop of concrete and brought to life with simple greens. Somehow I now want an olive tree in my living room…

FESTIVE CHRISTMAS TABLE SETTING

15 December 2014

christmas, table setting, style, styling, dinner table, simple, black and white, centrepiece, trend, modern rustic, photography, festive, idea

I love this old gnarled and twisted tree root the boys found a few weeks ago whilst playing in the woods. It spurned me into a trial run for our Christmas dinner – only the table setting mind, not the cooking. It’s a stand-off at the moment between turkey (the cowboy) and organic chicken (me), so much tastier and succulent but I think the cowboy might win this year as he missed out on Thanksgiving a few weeks ago when he flew back from a business trip and got in late.

One of the things I most look forward to at Christmas is setting and styling the dinner table. I think this year I’m going to keep it really simple and stick to black and white with a few rustic elements thrown in like some herbs tied around the napkins with simple string and of course the mighty tree root. I haven’t decided if I should stick with tea lights as in the photos or add some tall candles which would give a bit more height. #modernproblems

Hope this is getting you in the mood to try something different this year. Best of all, the decor is all natural so doesn’t have to cost a thing. Result!
