COOL STUFF | CYCLING BLAZER BY OLIVER SPENCER

7 March 2014

Vulpine, Cycling Apparel, Limited Edition, British, Oliver Spencer, Cycling, Cycling Blazer, London, Blazer, Menswear, Fashion, Design

The COOL STUFF is coming in thick and fast this week: I absolutely LOVE this cycling blazer! What a genius idea for the urban cyclist and though I’m not one of them, I want one.

It’s a collaboration by British menswear designer Oliver Spencer and fellow Brits Vulpine, a cycling apparel company. Cycling has become such an essential part of city life with more and more people opting to take the bike to work but often it also means lugging a large bag around for the office outfit. Not so anymore! This cycling blazer is the perfect solution in cut, material and quality. If you need more convincing, here’s the spiel:

“Designed with the urban cyclist in mind, the jacket perfectly combines the style and aesthetic of Oliver Spencer with the technicality and cycling expertise of Vulpine.

Fitted with the on-bike position in mind, the showerproof fabric is cut to allow plenty of reach. Hidden reflective cuffs and rear vent increase road visibility at night and the lapels join with a signature Vulpine icon button to keep inclement weather at bay. Underarm vent holes keep things cool when the weather gets warmer.

Once the bike is locked up, the blazer transforms into a sartorially considered jacket, standing out at the office meeting, while not looking out of place standing at the photocopier. Inside, contrasting finished seams and two inner pockets are a nod to the details outside.”

NOTE | It’s a limited edition so you’d better be quick.

MARGARET HOWELL | QUALITY MATTERS

16 February 2014

Margaret-Howell-The-Fashion-portrait

I’ve been an admirer of Margaret Howell since I first came to London 17 years ago. The quality and timeless designs of her beautiful garments have always excited me though I have to admit that it’s always been out of my price range.

My love for craftsmanship is no secret and you can imagine how excited I was to find her current SS14 campaign showing how much work and detail goes into producing shoes for her latest collection, beautifully captured in reportage style by Koto Bolofo. A great example of craftsmanship and quality that stands for the rest of her product and goes hand in hand with her environmentally conscious credentials.

“We should respect what it takes to produce something that is of a quality to last, and I feel we should be thinking about that now, especially in terms of protecting the environment. We should be more careful with our water, with everything.”

Read the whole article in The Guardian, ‘Why good quality clothes matter’ and take a front row seat at her SS14 show, streamed live to her website.

MOOD BOARD | REAL ROMANCE

14 February 2014

Real Romance Valentines Day Moodboard 2014

Good morning guys and girls and Happy V-Day! I hope you weren’t expecting helium hearts or red balloons or teddy bears carrying heart shaped objects.

Honestly, is there anything more embarrassing than having a teddy bear attached to a helium heart delivered to your office!? On a par with throwing up in front of your boss at the Christmas party I guess, but really… teddy bears. How old are we? Twelve? I once actually saw a girl on the tube on her way home on Valentines Day with such a monster on her lap and blushed on her behalf. I even had to switch carriages to get away from this saccharine piece of an eye-sore. It’s not that I’m not romantic but I like a bit more thought and classiness with my Valentines gifts. So much thought in fact that I think I’m the only lifestyle blogger out there who doesn’t feature a Valentine’s gift list on the blog this week.

Wait, I’ve just thought of an even more embarrassing Valentines’… a dinner a-deux in a cheap restaurant.

OMG, isn’t it nail-curlingly painful to be taken out to a public place where you’re packed like sardines at a tiny wonky table with a red rose, or worse a red carnation (!) as the whole sale price of roses rises sharply around mid February and this being an imaginary cheap restaurant they won’t have gone to the expense of bulk buying roses. Actually, it’s probably a fake red rose. A nasty plastic one they dust off every year. Yuk!

I know I sound totally ungrateful but come on guys and girls, a little imagination goes a long way to demonstrating real romance. Personally, I’d be over the moon with some of my favourite chocolate cake and a massive hug.

Aw… there, I’m easily pleased. [Though a trip to Paris would be nice.]

ANTICIPATING SPRING WITH WHITE ANEMONES

21 January 2014

Fresh flowers make me feel good and this bunch of white anemones, beautifully styled and shot, makes me anticipate and look forward to Spring.

Have you noticed the days are getting a bit longer!? I’m so pleased that we don’t have to walk home in darkness from the playground at 4:30pm anymore and I’ve already spotted some very large buds on next door’s magnolia tree.

So far we’ve not had a really cold spell in the UK and I’m probably jinxing it by talking about Spring but I think we all need a little pick-me-up at this time of year and I hope this virtual bunch of flowers has done just that for you.
