How quickly did this week go by!? You know how I’ve been lamenting the lack of a proper winter but finally I did get my cold spell this week and even a teeny tiny bit of snow – just enough for a pint-sized snowman much to the boys delight. Needless to say he was gone within 24hrs and we’re all looking longingly at the sky praying for some more of the white fluffy stuff.

Considering the lack of aforementioned snow I want to share this beautiful winter cabin with you. A great example of contemporary architecture in a rural context. The chalet is slightly set back from the mountain range in a unique isolated position on the border between Italy and France with phenomenal views of the Alps.

I like the simple shape of the house and it’s deliberate use of chunky wood and glass, the play between transparent and solid. It’s (almost) energy self-sufficient through the use of solar panels and other energy-efficient technologies like heat recovery and thermal insulation and the interior is pared back letting the scenery take center stage.

I think one week up there would feel like a month. Anybody for a recharge?
