MY MONTH ON INSTAGRAM | NOVEMBER 2014

30 November 2014

my month, mymonthoninstagram, photography, style, experiences, moments, season, petersham nurseries, restaurant, setting, thames, richmond, teahouse, instagram, november, photo, trend, daily, beauty, autumn, stylejuicer, cafe, quirky, rustic, london, greenhouse,

I’ve been really enjoying my Instagram this year so I thought I’d start a new column to share my monthly favourites with you. November has been a beautiful autumnal month with quite a bit of sunshine and some gorgeous colourful leaves.

One of the highlights was our family outing to local cafe, restaurant and garden centre Petersham Nurseries. It’s an amazingly tranquil place next to Petersham Meadows and the Thames that let’s you forget how close you’re to London. I love the quirky setting with mismatched (sometimes wobbly) chairs and exotic greenery in the large (glass) Teahouse. The food is always top notch and the kids enjoyed exploring the setting after scoffing their cake and most of ours.

Let’s see what December brings. Why don’t you join #mymonthoninstagram!?

INTERIORS CRUSH | SOFIA JANSSON’S SWEDISH HOME

9 June 2014

Sofia, mokkasin, blog, photographer, scandinavian, interior design, white, bright, light, colourful, quirky, pieces, flowers, niki, my scandinavian home, instagram, william morris wallpaper

Ever since I came across Sofia Jansson from Mokkasin blog via the Zara brothers and sisters campaign I’ve kinda Instagram stalked her… in a nice way I hasten to add.

She’s not just the most wonderful photographer that sets up inspirational shoots with her 4 kids but her home is equally special, very light and Scandinavian with lots of interesting bits and pieces strewn around. You can imagine how thrilled I was when I found a tour of her home on the Swedish online edition of Elle Decor and via Niki from My Scandinavian Home.

I’m head over Birkenstocks in love with Sofia’s clean white home which she uses a lot for photoshoots and thrilled to see it in a spring/summer setting with lots of flowers everywhere and flooded with light. The white lilac on the kitchen table is my fav and I love the large period double doors in the living room opening out into the garden. Did you notice the matching windows in the conservatory!? Most of her furniture is made from a light coloured wood – I’m guessing birch – which gives it a classic Scandinavian feel, keeping the interior light and bright.

What really makes the place stand out to me are all the little colourful quirky details, like the rainbow cushions, the pink radio in the kitchen and a matching teal guitar and armchair in the background. Let me just add how fabulous to break up all this white space with a wall covered in William Morris wallpaper!? That work space is just so inspirational and a complete pattern overload – I love it!

I can’t see enough of her home… Guess I’ll need to stalk her some more on Instagram, wanna join the lovefest!? Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

INSTAGRAM #STYLINGCOMPETITION

1 March 2014

jenniferlevau-StylingCompetition

Listen up budding stylists and design lovers! There’s a friendly styling competition going over on instagram involving some of my favourite bloggers and stylists.

Follow the hashtag StylingCompetition and you’ll see daily shots from famous US bloggers like Jennifer Hagler and her husband Jeremiah as well as Skandi super stylist Lotta Agaton – I just made up that title for her, I’m sure she won’t mind. It’s fun to see what everybody comes up with, especially when it’s more of a spontaneous shot.

You can of course also follow me and my attempts at styling everyday life amongst the toys and chaos that our two boistrous little guys create. I always look for the beauty in everyday life which round here is never boring!

BEST OF INSTAGRAM 2013

30 December 2013

Wow, what a year it has been! Mainly another year of firsts for me, this time venturing out into the blogosphere, joining social media properly and therefore opening myself up to being judged, analysed and sometimes criticised. Initially it was scary and there have been some trolls but overall I’ve received so much positive and encouraging feedback that I’m excited to continue my social media journey.

A big part of that is Instagram for me. At the beginning I was like an excited puppy playing with a new squeaky toy but after exploring all the filters, frames and blur options I’m slowly moving towards a more considerate approach. I’m starting to think more about composition and colours and want my grid to be more cohesive and harmonious. Still telling a story and documenting special moments but always with the intention of showing beauty in the everyday and (hopefully) bringing inspiration to my followers.

I’ve blogged about the phenomenon before when I introduced Ida Laerke, a favourite Instagrammer of mine. It’s a powerful tool as it makes you feel so close to somebody who you’ve never met and probably never will but yet you know what their newborn looks like, what colour their front door is painted and that their partner liked his stripy socks for Christmas. It’s strange and you could call it voyeurism but I ask myself what’s the difference to buying gossip magazines? Only this time you’re peeking into somebody’s life who isn’t famous.

So, whether you love it or hate it here is my selection of special moments from 2013 and already I can’t wait to compose next year’s round up.

I’m wondering… Are you on Instagram? Who do you think is worth following and why?

IDA LAERKE INTERVIEW VIA BUNGALOW 5

8 November 2013

I couldn’t finish this subtle week on Stylejuicer without introducing you to one of my NBF via Instagram:
IDA LAERKE HANSEN.

I see her almost daily or at least I get a glimpse of her and see what moves and inspires her. I feel we are on the same wave length and if she’s happy or sad I can feel her mood through her photos. I think of her as part of my ‘gang’ but of course I’ve never even met her – and probably won’t – but such is the power of a simple idea like Instagram that it lures you into thinking you’ve found a soulmate. Strange, dangerous, harmless or simply fun whichever way you look at it, Instagram is a magical tool.

I was therefore delighted to find an interview with my NBF on uebercool Danish blog Bungalow5 and got permission from the founder himself to re-post it here on Stylejuicer. [Thanks Allan, you’re the man!] For more inspiring designer interviews pop over to Bungalow5 and get lost in it’s stylish content.

Bungalow5 Ida Laerke Interview via Stylejuicer

A picture from my newsfeed on Instagram has just ticked in, while I am writing this. It is from Ida LƦrke Hansen, who just posted a new cool picture of pieces of fruit in a glass filled with water. The other day it was four horses on a field chewing grass. Ida takes pictures of her everyday life. And everybody loves it. Ida has almost 300.000 followers (including me). If you like me are curios as to why people follow her and how much time she is actually using on styling her pictures, read on.

What is your background?

I have a master in history from the University of Copenhagen. I handed in my thesis spring 2013, and the subject was sexual and body education for women 1890-1950.

And how did you start instagramming?

A friend showed me Instagram in September 2011. The immediacy appealled to me: Take a picture with your iPhone, use a filter to edit the picture and share. Easy and quick.

How do your 300.000 followers affect you?

For me Instagram is a complex tool. It is a social network but I can also use Instagram to express myselv creatively. I am happy that so many like what I do and express their positive opinions of my pictures. My many followers have motivated me to keep taking pictures but for me taking pictures has to be about me wanting to take them. As long as I think it is fun to take pictures and post them on Instagram, I will keep doing it.

How long time do you spend taking pictures?

Some days several hours, some five minutes. It depends on my mood and inspiration that day. A lot of my pictures are from where I am at at the moment. For instant at Amager Strandpark with my husband and son. In that sense Instagram is a visual diary which I always cary with me.

A lot of your pictures look like still lifes. Why?

Because I feel like it. I have an interest for compositions and colours and I love having fun arranging a picture. My still lifes create or recreate moods and feelings. Or it simply looks beautiful.

What apps are your favorite?

I am a big fan of Amaro on Instagram. Lately I have started using VSCO CAM.

The other day you posted a picture of four hourses on a field. The picture currently has 6768 likes. What makes this particular picture great?

The best pictures on Instagram are about much more than just the specific object or lighting. It is about how the picture move the person who sees it.

Why do you think people follow you?

I like to think that people follow me because my pictures represents something in our time: The esthetic and the ordenary of our everyday life. Like a cup of coffee, a flower, family or a beautiful sunbeam in my kitchen. My everyday is being interpreted through a simple, esthetic universe that I think appeals to a lot of people.

Enjoy and I hope you’re inspired!
