MOOD BOARD | NUDE TREND

14 February 2015

mood board, nudes, pale pink, valentines day, couples, love, snuggle, fashion, style, trend, lingerie, neutrals, feminine colour, inspiration, instagram

What could be a better fit than NUDES on this special day for all loved up couples out there. Aw… you guys, so cute….

You may detect some cynicism in my tone but it’s not because I dislike Valentines Day per se. Though I do have a problem with the commercial aspect of it and the stupidly inflated prices for flowers in general and roses in particular. But I guess that’s market forces at play. Supply and demand… yadda yadda.

As I mentioned earlier this week I’m declaring my love of nudes today. You night have noticed my Instagram account turning somewhat nude and dare I say pink – shock horror!? Well, it’s more of a soft pink that I champion, aka nude. In fashion it’s wonderfully flattering with all skin tones from pale blondes to freckly gingers to dark skin and hair, nude looks good on everyone. It even gives women like me a little lift with my washed out complexion and hair. Plus it’s a wonderfully feminine colour and always makes me feel like a natural woman… Are you breaking out in song?

On my recent (all too brief) shopping trip to London’s Oxford Street I noticed a lot of nude tones around from sheer blouses to trousers and lingerie. I think it’s going to be a really strong nude trend this year and I love it as it looks good with all my favourite neutrals like white, grey and black and gives a hint of colour without shouting pink at you.

Now, go and put that iphone/pad down and snuggle up to your loved one for another round of oh lala or maybe just a good old snooze. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

MONOCHROME FAMILY TOWNHOUSE IN COPENHAGEN

12 February 2015

Do you remember the Vipp shelter from last week? I’ve just discovered that some of my favourite lifestyle images on Pinterest all originate from this monochrome family townhouse in Copenhagen.

I found the place on Dwell and it turns out that the couple who live there with their four children both work for Vipp in a senior capacity. Hence the beautifully placed products around the house.

You know grey is my favourite colour but I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to paint my whole kitchen and dining area in this dark-ish shade. Let alone dark grey kitchen units. The couple say it is their most used room of the house and that it works particularly well for entertaining as the space feels cozy and cave like. A stark contrast to the rest of the house which feels light and airy.

It’s a very monochrome and minimalist space where each piece of furniture is a (future) design classic supporting the Scandinavian tradition of ‘form follows function’ as well as the use of organic and quality materials.

My favourite room of the house has to be the home office in the attic though. Oh, how I love that butterfly chair and the old black typewriter. What a gem!

INTERIORS CRUSH | RENOVATED LOFT IN FRANCE

10 February 2015

Oh what an Interiors Crush I have on this renovated loft by Planet Studio in Anduze, Southern France. I want to dive right in and touch all the surfaces… the rough wooden beams, the cool black steel, the floor which looks like polished concrete tiles to me though I suspect it’s something entirely different but equally clever.

It’s a beautiful mix of modern rustic with vintage furniture and I adore the industrial style pendant lights and the old armoire serving as a display cabinet for crockery and glassware. And what about those skylight windows!? They flood the place with light and make the former paper mill feel like an artists studio.

The semi-covered courtyard allows for sheltered dining al fresco and I love the three artfully hole punched globes above the table giving off some beautiful light and reflections.

Wouldn’t that work well for Valentine’s dinner!?

FOOD HEAVEN | GINGER AND CHILI SALMON

9 February 2015

ginger, chili, salmon, noodles, mushrooms, recipe, donna hay, australian, quick, simple, easy, healthy, good for you, food heaven, delicious

Happy Monday peeps. Let’s start with some food inspo today before we work up to V-day on Saturday. Yes, Valentines Day is not my favourite as you might remember from last year [read my rant here] but I am declaring my love for nudes this week – the colour, not the artistic term – which is my concession to romance this week.

Back to food: I regularly run out of ideas of what to cook for our main meal which is my cue to find some inspiration online. Somehow I always end up at Donna Hay and her fabulous section of fast weeknight suppers. They all look so delicious and are super easy to make.

The cowboy likes to have a light and healthy meal on Sunday nights and I think this ginger chili salmon might just hit the spot. I like the combination of a sweet and spicy marinade for the salmon and it’s such a fast meal to whip up. I think this one might be a keeper.

GINGER AND CHILI SALMON WITH NOODLES
INGREDIENTS:

¼ cup (60ml) kecap manis (sweet Indonesian soy sauce)
2 cloves garlic, crushed
3cm piece (15g) ginger, peeled and finely grated
½ cup (125ml) water
1 tablespoon dried chili flakes
1 tablespoon sea salt flakes
4 x 180g salmon fillets, skin removed
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
200g Swiss brown mushrooms, halved
200g dried rice noodles, cooked
1 cup coriander (cilantro) leaves

DIRECTIONS:

Place the kecap manis, garlic, ginger and water in a bowl and mix to combine. Set aside. Place the chili and salt on a tray and mix to combine. Press both sides of the salmon into the chilli salt to coat. Slice each fillet into 1cm-thick pieces. Heat the oil in a large wok or non-stick frying pan over high heat. Add the salmon and cook, in batches, for 1 minute each side. Remove from the pan and set aside. Add the mushroom and cook for 2 minutes. Add the sauce and cook for 4 minutes or until the mushroom is tender. Top the noodles with the salmon, mushroom and coriander to serve. Serves 4.

MOOD BOARD | SOPHISTICATED WINTER VIBES

7 February 2015

mood board, trend, vibe, winter, sophisticated, concrete, trainers, warmth, cardigan, wetroom, bathroom, crisp, frozen, dream, bliss, style

I know I sound like a broken record but I do NOT like this mish-mash grey rainy cold gloomy weather. Give me a crisp winter’s day and I’m happy as can be but this moody sitting-on-the-fence weather is driving me mad. Too dry for wellies and too muddy for trainers. What’s a modern mum to do? Walking boots I guess but we live in the outskirts of London, not in the country. Even the parks have pavements here. Idunno…

After this outburst I’m going to brighten up the day with a sophisticated Winter vibes mood board where all my dreams come true. An ultra modern concrete cabin with underfloor heating – check. A minimalist wetroom – check. And me curling up on the sofa in this wonderful wrap cardigan – bliss. Oh, and of course the ground outside is frozen and crisp so my box fresh trainers won’t get muddy.

Well, a girl can dream…
