LOFT LOVE | CLAPTON WAREHOUSE

26 May 2015

Happy Monday! It’s half-term here in the UK and entertaining the kids is a priority this week but before they jump on me demanding to chase them like a dragon or tickle them senseless I’m sneaking in this gorgeous Clapton warehouse in East London.

I’m not sure if it’s just the photography but the tones are much softer than the usual Scandinavian white wash and the untreated (I think) nude render gives this place real warmth and is somehow more true to it’s industrial past. Of course I was drawn to the clean lines and the to-die-for concrete wet room and kitchen counter but I love the exposed steel girders painted in black and the mezzanine bedroom.

Ok, I’m off to play chase now with two wild ones. Enjoy your week!

IKEA | CONSCIOUS LIVING

22 May 2015

ikea, ilse crawford, sinnerlig collection, unique, tactile, raw, sustainable, materials, brand leader, trend setter, apple, mass-production, renewable, natural materials, cork, bamboo, glass, celebrating imperfections, style, design, for the home, decor, furniture

IKEA has done it again! Captured the Zeitgeist and given us just what we crave right now: uniqueness, tactility and sustainability. All under the umbrella brand of CONSCIOUS LIVING.

The sign of a brand leader is to be able to read market trends and anticipate what people want just before it drops into their consciousness and IKEA, just as APPLE, is a master at sniffing out and mass-producing trends.

The upcoming Sinnerlig collection by designer Ilse Crawford consists of pieces that engage our senses and connect us to our homes. Working with renewable and natural material like cork, bamboo and glass she has created some wonderful tactile and functional furniture.

The collection also includes vases that are all given different treatments during production therefore each one has a unique look celebrating the imperfections that arise during the process.

I can’t wait for Sinnerlig to hit the shops in August.

INTERIORS CRUSH | FULHAM HOME

20 May 2015

interiors crush, london, fulham home, daniel lee, emma lee, distinctly english, minimalist, off white, vintage furniture, design classics, industrial style, dinesen floors, eclectic, wood, saarinen dining table, interior design, decor, trend, style, rory gardiner

Oh, what an interiors crush today! This Fulham home is only down the road from us and I love seeing how software development professional Daniel Lee and his photographer wife Emma have renovated and extended their Victorian terrace.

Daniel is a designer as well as an architecture enthusiast and worked closely with his builder after getting the architect to obtain the necessary planning permissions for his extensive project which included a basement excavation and extension at the back.

He wanted a distinctly English yet minimalist look and made the Dinesen flooring his focal point giving the space drama and drawing the eye through the custom-made industrial style doors into the garden.

I love how he added texture to the walls by adding MDF panelling and echoed the floors in the kitchen cabinet doors and splash back. It’s an unusual layout in a familiar space and my favourite room has to be his studio at the back of the house where a huge ceiling glass panel brings in lots of natural light.

The eclectic mix of rustic furniture and modern design classics like the Saarinen tulip dining table and vintage wood stools work incredibly well in this serene off-white interior.

Sadly the place is sold now and the couple have moved on to their next project. I can’t wait what Daniel comes up with next.

LAURA THOMAS LINENS | SCENTED SUMMER CANDLE

18 May 2015

Laura Thomas Linens, for the home, scented, soy candle, flowers, natural soy wax, burns longer and cleaner, biodegradable, natural renewable source, garden, new zealand, orange, lemon, neroli, essential oils, uplifting invigorating effect, trend, style, decor, home scent

I’ve written about mumpreneur Laura Thomas Linens on here before and I was thrilled when she contacted me to test her new scented soy candle ‘flowers’.

Laura puts so much thought, effort and care into everything she produces I knew I’d love it and sure enough this scent is a stunner! All candles are made with 100% natural soy wax, essential oils and high grade fragrance as well as hand-poured by Laura in her studio in Gullane, Scotland. Soy wax is non-toxic and burns longer and cleaner than paraffin which is better for you and the environment. They are also biodegradable and stem from the soybean which is a natural renewable source.

With the summer candle Laura tried to re-create the scents of her garden in New Zealand which had over 30 orange, lemon and grapefruit trees within it. The delicate combination of rose, neroli and lemon all conjure up spring and summer and have an uplifting and invigorating effect which I tried to convey in my shots.

I just wish screens had a scratch and smell option as my blogging buddy Cate St.Hill pointed out.

PAPU | KIDS BRAND

15 May 2015

papu, kids corner, childrens clothing, brand, fashion, finnish, susanna vento, varpunen, blog, fresh, playful, fun, comfortable, design, design conscious parents, style, trend, stylist, mini gym

These gorgeous photos are via Susanna’s blog Varpunen and are part of a giveaway competition – sadly closed now. But I love the Finnish brand Papu with their hip graphics for kids and the way Susanna has styled the shots as a quick kids work-out in her mini-gym.

Fresh, playful, fun, comfortable and – most importantly – a look that’s pleasing for design conscious parents as well. What’s not to like!? Check out Papu’s range and see more on Susanna’s blog.
