INTERIOR STYLIST ELISABETH HEIER’S CHRISTMAS HOME

I wanted to share these images of Elisabeth Heier’s Christmas home with you. The Norwegian interior designer, stylist and blogger has managed to create the perfect neutral backdrop in her home to style almost any product. Combined with her love for photography her images are distinctly recognizable featuring stylish – often minimal – Scandinavian design as is the case with her Christmas home.

I always look at her place with slight envy as it oozes serenity and calm without any clutter to be seen – though I know it’s probably chaos behind the scenes (unlikely, eh!?). How gorgeous is her advent calendar? Simple white paper bags with number tags on a white stylized wooden Christmas tree. DIY really doesn’t get any easier… #nextyear

The other simple but effective details around her home like the stylized wooden pine cone on the coffee table, the light stars in the window and the pine tree branch with minimal but beautiful decorations bring an immediate festive atmosphere. Have you noticed the brass wreath in her bedroom? Interesting how this dull rustic metal keeps creeping up everywhere. See my posts here and here.

Now, my cop out for this year is that we’re not at home during the festive period but I better get organized for next year. Somehow Christmas always seems to come as a surprise.

TREND | BLACK AND BRASS DETAILS

19 December 2016

black and brass details, swedish, apartment, style, trend, styling, hygge, warm textures, natural materials, brass, exposed brick, zinc roof, decor, untreated

Isn’t this apartment just the perfect example of ‘hygge’ with it’s black and brass details and warm textures!? Perfect for this time of year where the days are so short and we like to withdraw and make ourselves comfortable at home.

I like how the stylist picked up on the rust red zinc roof and brought splashes of the same colour inside the house in the cushion, throw and ceramics. Even the berries on the decorative branch blend in and harmonize with the black table, chairs and ceiling light. Lots of interesting textures like the exposed brick chimney stack, wooden floors and black aluminium frame door give this place character and the open plan layout make it a wonderful space to entertain.

Another trend I’ve noticed – not just in this apartment – is the return of brass which has a more rustic feel than the shiny copper we’ve seen so much of in the past couple of years. Combining it with natural untreated materials I think this trend will grow over the next few years. For a sneak peek at what’s in store for 2017 read my post about H&M Home here.

HM HOME | TRENDS SPRING 2017

13 December 2016

christmas, HM home, spring 2017, trend, style, styling, lotta agaton, pia ulin, photographer, brass, green, plants, warm, cozy

Have you noticed it’s not very christmassy on the blog – yet!? Somehow I can’t find my Christmas mojo and instead I’m being drawn to Spring 2017 already as you can see in these stunning images by HM Home.

Maybe it’s because we’re heading off to the Canary Islands next week swapping Christmas jumpers for t-shirts and turkey for paella. And you know what? I’m totally fine with it and happy to skip the Christmas vibes this year.

2017 will be a big year for us with plans for renovations and moving home so no surprise these images struck a chord with me.

Styled by Lotta Agaton and photographed by Pia Ulin HM Home shows how trends are subtly moving on. Copper is being replaced by brass, stark white by beige / grey neutrals and though blue is still strong green is creeping in via accessories like ceramics, cushions and bedding. Plants and greenery in the home is still a massive trend and the whole look is much warmer and cosier than it has been for years.

Can we fast forward to Spring please!?

PLACES TO GO | CAFE MOBY 3143 IN ARMADALE, AUS

7 December 2016

simple design solutions, colour palette, interior design, style, styling, armadale, australia, design studio, we are huntly, brickwork, warm grey, dusty pink, dark blue, white metalwork, polished concrete floor, metro tiles, copper accents, art deco, lighting, trend, hip, Steve Svensen, Christina Higgins, seasonal selections

Simple design solutions and a stunning colour palette is what struck me first about the interior design of cafe Moby 3143 in Armadale, Australia. Executed to perfection by hip design studio We Are Huntly they took their cue from the curved windows and painted the brickwork facade a warm grey contrasting with the dusty pink and dark blue on the inside.

The soft colour scheme is beautifully balanced with white metalwork seen in the seating, tables and staircase as well as a polished concrete floor and dark blue metro tiles surrounding the kitchen counter and some large table tops. Copper accents in lighting and tap ware compliment the scheme giving a hint of art deco but I’m particularly smitten with the stunning rectangular metal framed lighting next to the serving hatch.

Oh, and did I mention that this establishment is run by local foodies Steve Svensen and Christina Higgins? Their combined experience reaches from London to Melbourne and they serve delicious seasonal selections as well as heavenly coffee creations. Oh, what I’d give for a flat white and breakfast at Moby 3143.

Get there before the guidebooks do.

STYLING | STEPHANIE SOMEBODY

5 December 2016

stephanie somebody, style, styling, earthy, sharyn cairns, photography, australia, stylist, stephanie stamatis, instagram, natural materials, textures, the life plan book

I’ve followed stylist Stephanie Somebody for a while now on Instagram and I like her earthy style which often involves natural materials and textures.

The muted tones, minimal styling and interesting objects in these shots taken by Sharyn Cairns really capture my imagination and I’d love to have them up on my wall.

They were taken for a book called The Life Plan by author Shannah Kennedy which talks about ‘Simple strategies for a meaningful life’. Considering the topic I can see the images working really well bringing some more abstract concepts to life.

You can see more of Stephanie’s work and her studio here.
