MONOCHROME FAMILY TOWNHOUSE IN COPENHAGEN

Do you remember the Vipp shelter from last week? I’ve just discovered that some of my favourite lifestyle images on Pinterest all originate from this monochrome family townhouse in Copenhagen.

I found the place on Dwell and it turns out that the couple who live there with their four children both work for Vipp in a senior capacity. Hence the beautifully placed products around the house.

You know grey is my favourite colour but I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to paint my whole kitchen and dining area in this dark-ish shade. Let alone dark grey kitchen units. The couple say it is their most used room of the house and that it works particularly well for entertaining as the space feels cozy and cave like. A stark contrast to the rest of the house which feels light and airy.

It’s a very monochrome and minimalist space where each piece of furniture is a (future) design classic supporting the Scandinavian tradition of ‘form follows function’ as well as the use of organic and quality materials.

My favourite room of the house has to be the home office in the attic though. Oh, how I love that butterfly chair and the old black typewriter. What a gem!

INTERIORS CRUSH | RENOVATED LOFT IN FRANCE

10 February 2015

interiors crush, renovation, loft, anduze, france, planet studio, decor, materials, industrial, modern rustic, vintage furniture, style, trend, interior design, interiors, styling

Oh what an Interiors Crush I have on this renovated loft by Planet Studio in Anduze, Southern France. I want to dive right in and touch all the surfaces… the rough wooden beams, the cool black steel, the floor which looks like polished concrete tiles to me though I suspect it’s something entirely different but equally clever.

It’s a beautiful mix of modern rustic with vintage furniture and I adore the industrial style pendant lights and the old armoire serving as a display cabinet for crockery and glassware. And what about those skylight windows!? They flood the place with light and make the former paper mill feel like an artists studio.

The semi-covered courtyard allows for sheltered dining al fresco and I love the three artfully hole punched globes above the table giving off some beautiful light and reflections.

Wouldn’t that work well for Valentine’s dinner!?

DESIGN INSPIRATION | AWARD WINNING VIPP SHELTER

5 February 2015

vipp shelter, danish, design, form follows function, dna, brand experience, wallpaper magazine awards, indoor, outdoor, framing nature, vipp world, experience, style, trend, design inspiration, design, architecture, interior, decor

The Vipp shelter recently won best brand extension in the Wallpaper Design Awards 2015 and you can easily see why. The Danish brand that started off with pedal bins has expanded and gone from strength to strength over the years. Embracing new technologies as well as reaching out to social media and hosting a styling competition last autumn for influential bloggers. My invite got lost in the post – apparently.

When I first saw the shelter I thought what a great concept, expecting the photos to turn out to be 3D computer visualisations. But the cynic in me was proven wrong when I found out that you can actually BUY this shelter including all fittings for a mere 485,000 Euros! Great value if you ask me as you’re not just buying the 55sqm space but the whole Vipp world – an experience you can’t put a price tag on. And no, they didn’t pay me to say that but here’s a quote that sums up the experience beautifully:

The starting point of the Vipp shelter is going back to basics; back to nature in a dense, compact space wrapped in the Vipp DNA. The landscape is purposely framed, turning it into the predominant element of the interior space. Each piece of interior and its dominant dark tones are carefully selected in order to keep focus on nature. The sliding window frames accentuate the sensation of living in nature by blurring the distinction of indoor outdoor space.

All you have to do is tell them where you want your humble shelter to be placed. Genius!

BROSTE COPENHAGEN SS2015 | BEHIND THE SCENES

23 January 2015

A fun little post today with images from behind the scenes at the Broste Copenhagen SS2015 campaign as well as the finished result. I notice some more blue trends – perfect continuation of my theme this week.

Over the years I’ve been involved in countless photoshoots and know how hard it is to take the perfect shot. Styling, lighting, composition all play vital parts but never underestimate how many people are involved to create the ‘magic’ and how many people actually need to sign off on the shot.

Needless to say organising a photoshoot is pretty stressful let alone taking the shot or art directing it. I therefore take my hat off to the people at Broste who share these behind the scenes shots with us and the world on their site. It brings back a lot of memories of the excitement and thrill of the day as well as the above mentioned pressure.

Enjoy the sneak peek and see more on their site. Looks like they had a laugh – or did they!?

FABULOUS PREFAB HOME | STOCKHOLM

22 January 2015

prefab, prefabricated, wood, house, home, stockhom, construction, interior design, style, trend, blue, details, polished concrete, graphic pattern, rugs, mix and match, birkeboo, time and cost effective, eclectic

Oh, I do like a woman with a good business head on her shoulders and today’s home was built in just 4 months by single mother of two and midwife Anne outside Stockholm.

Her passion for building led her to start her own company Birkeboo which helps private individuals to design and build their own home. The houses are prefab in Estonia and then shipped on large trucks and constructed on site in a matter of weeks. A time and cost effective solution all built to European standards.

I like the clean and simple interior design with polished concrete floors, lots of pale wood and white walls which are a perfect backdrop for Anne’s eclectic selection of graphic pattern rugs and mix and match furniture. I’ve spotted quite a few blue details in her home which links in nicely with my ‘blue as trend’ theme this week.

I’m particularly in love with her cozy work space up in the roof overlooking the open plan kitchen and dining area. A perfect control centre for work and family life! Go Mummy!
