The Series 7™ chair designed by Arne Jacobsen back in the 1960ies has become a design icon and I love it’s form and function in equal measure.
To celebrate the diversity of contexts that this iconic chair has performed in during its first 60 years of life – from MoMA in New York to Centre Bakery in Tokyo Fritz Hansen have created two jubilee models in special colours. A masculine edition with a dark blue lacquer shell and powder-coated burnished legs. And a feminine edition dressed in pale pink lacquer with 24-ct gold-plated legs.
Explaining the design background and inspiration for the jubilee edition Fritz Hansen says:
The 60th Anniversary Edition of the Series 7 is inspired by the notion that ‘opposites attract’, a key theme in interior design right now. The 60th Anniversary Edition of the Series 7 chair is all about contrast – in materials and colours. While the deep dark blue and the pale pink may contrast each other, they also interact to create a calm and elegant look, attracting and complementing one another. To mark the 60th anniversary of this iconic chair, each chair has a golden plate mounted on the underside of the shell.
I don’t know about you but I want BOTH. #modernproblems
