8 October 2016

I had forgotten how much I enjoy creating a moodboard and since everything around us is changing colour at the moment I felt drawn to these images capturing my own interpretation of autumn, from perfectly imperfect freckles to warm wool, wood, leather and terracotta colour.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

MOOD BOARD | REFLECTIVE

27 May 2016

A reflective mood board today as half term has started and I need to slow down and focus on family life. My mum is coming to visit and the boys are super excited as ‘Oma’ will sleep in their room. Let’s hope she won’t mind the 6am starts.

These past couple of weeks have been incredibly busy and I feel I’ve not had the chance to sit back and reflect. When putting this board together I came across photographer Aiala Hernando who took the ‘spaces’ and the ‘white still life’ shot above.

After studying Fine Arts, specialising in Art Direction, she worked as a Creative Director before breaking out on her own to pursue a career in photography. Her high profile client list speaks volumes about her work and I was intrigued to find that she also runs self-paced online courses on photography, styling and interestingly: Composition.

I’ve always maintained that good composition and structure are the foundations of most artistic disciplines be it fine art, graphic, photography or product design. Even architecture and interior design reply on strong composition to make them significant and no technological wizardry can make up for a lack of knowledge of these foundations.

Check out her courses here and I might see you in class.

STYLING | A LITTLE COLOUR

11 May 2016

a little colour, fantastic frank, estate agents, apartment, apricot, nude trend, white washed, ikea, sinnerlig, ilse crawford, mood board, styling, style, trend, interior design, decor, interior style

This apartment is only 23 sq meters and I’m so pleased to see that the owner was brave clever enough to add a little colour to it.

In the last shot you can see how each ‘room’ is painted in a different colour, starting with the hall in dark grey, leading into the kitchen in light grey before drawing the eye into the main bed / living room painted in a wonderfully indescribable shade of apricot / nude / pink. A clever trick to draw you into the apartment making it feel a lot bigger than it seems on paper and making it stand out from the rest of the white washed apartments in the listings at Swedish estate agents Fantastic Frank.

The cork stools and benches from Ikea’s Sinnerlig collection designed by Ilse Crawford seem to be made for this space and I love the old glass door divider between the kitchen and the main room which contrasts so nicely with the sleek lamps and furniture dotted around.

More of the nude trend on my last mood board here.

16 January 2016

mood board, trend, style, lets get cozy, mountain cabin, chunky wood, fresh snow, slow living, smooth hot chocolate, ski, skiing, mountains, alpine, rest, relax, recharge, winter

Can someone (anyone?) take me to a mountain cabin pleeease.

This month is dragging on and I need to recharge my batteries after these first few weeks of 2016. I’ve been crazy busy with some lovely design projects which I will share with you on here soon but they’ve left me longing for some slow living.

In the meantime let’s get cozy and indulge in chunky wood, fresh snow and silky smooth hot chocolate. Perfect!
