Today is billed as the hottest day of the year so far… in the UK!

If we trust the forecast it’ll be 30 degrees here in sunny London and as the lyrics go “I am feeling hot hot hot” – and very happy about these summery temperatures. Luckily, our house is nice and cool, fresh fruit and ice lollies are prepped and today’s entertainment is being provided in the shape of a paddling pool and water hose. Oh what fun you can have with such a simple thing and very effective to keep whinging kids at bay. *evil laugh*

You can see my ideas of cooling down in style above. All images sourced through beloved Pinterest. Enjoy and stay cool!

DESIGN INSPIRATION | BRANDING BY SAVVY STUDIO

Today’s branding project was a complete surprise to me on two levels. Firstly it’s not – as first thought – a Scandinavian brand but was actually established in New York only last year by husband and wife team Esteban Saba and Petra Brichnacova. They say:

Håndværk is a small, artisan label specialising in supremely luxurious pieces with a thoughtfully curated collection of high quality everyday essentials made from the finest natural raw materials and innovative fabrics.

Our heritage is grounded in three generations of small-scale family production; a storied legacy of manufacturing textiles, garments, and luxury products. We hand-make or hand-finish each individual piece in collaboration with other family owned workshops specialized in their craft, who share our unwavering commitment for exceptional quality.

Wow, they had me at artisan but that’s not all. I was probably even more surprised to find out that the branding was done by Savvy, a design studio in Monterray Mexico, of all places. Wow, again as I think their translation of the brand values is perfectly reflected in the logo and understated packaging. The predominantly white aesthetics, clean lines and minimalist typography oozes luxury and quality. I should also mention that the word håndværk means craft in Danish and the special lower case a and ae characters add interest and subtle recognition to the logo type.

A beautiful branding job that got me thinking about the Mexican design studio that managed to create such a cool luxury brand. On further snooping around Savvy’s instagram account it seems that they’re a fan of Scandinavian aesthetics as shots of their office could easily be in Copenhagen, Stockholm or Berlin. I guess the beauty of the world wide web brings us ever closer together and how wonderful to think that a NYC luxury brand with Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics was conjured up by a Mexican design studio. Truly inspirational!

NOTE: Check out the branding for Nordic House by another superb Mexcian studio.

XOIO – 3D ARCHITECTURAL VISUALISATION

14 July 2014

After that game last night, here are some calm and comforting images of a completely fictional apartment. I kid you not! This is the ah-ma-zing work of 3D visualization studio xoio situated in the heart of Berlin. Yay! Had to get a German reference in there somehow.

I still can’t quite get my head round the renderings or how you’d even go about creating one of these visuals. Textures, fabrics, light, shadows and reflections look amazingly realistic which is of course the point but somehow Peter Stulz and his team have taken it to another level.

I’ve seen some architectural visualisations on various blogs before which I wasn’t too keen on but when I came across xoio’s work I was totally convinced it was an actual apartment. I wonder if they employ an interior designer who sets the style and tone as it’s a very cool contemporary and minimalist space.

Oh, how I’d like to crawl under that duvet and have another little snooze only to wake up and realise that last night wasn’t a dream. Deutschland ist Weltmeister!

Happy Monday to you and especially to all my fellow countrymen and women! We did it!

MOOD BOARD | WEEKEND VIBE #01

13 July 2014

mood board, weekend, vibe, mood, mix, trends, visual, monochrome, relax, chill, kick back, bed, reading, flowers, love, black and white, skirt, garance dore, tonje, foreverloveblog,

Wishing you all a super relaxing Sunday! I’ve been mega busy this past week and am looking forward to just chilling out and pottering around today. I might even put up my new IKEA picture ledge but as any DIY causes too much excitement with my little guys I might postpone it until they’re back at preschool tomorrow. Alternatively I could let them play with the electric drill which they’d be thrilled about.

Hope you enjoy today’s mood board conjuring up all that’s beautiful, inspiring and relaxing.

BEHOMM – HOME EXCHANGE

12 July 2014

behomm, home exchange, community, designers, visual artists, taste, aesthetics, agust juste, eva calduch, attention to detail, invitation only, network, friends, local, tips, travelling, secure, travel

Happy weekend everyone! It’s not often that I post on Saturdays but I’ve got to tell you about behomm, a new online home exchange community for designers and visual artists. The idea is simple: you exchange homes for free. But the unique selling point is that it’s with somebody within your professional community, somebody who shares the same interests and often aesthetics.

I’ve spent many hours trawling sites like airbnb and onefinestay to find a home with appealing decor only to give up after the umpteenth gorgeous feature image lead to yet another horrible bathroom and tiny dark kitchen. I know I’m fussy but my surroundings are important to me and as much as I’d like to explore the place I also like to look forward to getting back to my home from home where I actually get a sense of the people and culture and not just an anonymous hotel room which could be anywhere in the world.

So you can imagine that I was thrilled to receive an invitation this week from Spanish founders and fellow graphic designers Agust Juste and Eva Calduch to join the behomm community and went straight into daydreaming mode. As you can see there are so many gorgeous homes all over the world from some of the most popular cities to countryside retreats that you could easily spent your next couple of years travelling.

For me one of the best things is that most designers and visual artists pay a lot of attention to detail and it’s those little things that make all the difference for your stay. Nice bedlinen, fresh flowers, interesting artwork or quirky decor makes your stay more intimate and you feel like you’re not a tourist but get a taste of life as a local. Getting to know each other beforehand and exchanging tips on what to do and where to go is also a massive benefit as are the additional comforts of home like toys for kids, music, films, books etc.

Agust and Eva believe that sharing is the future but for security reasons have made behomm by invitation only to ensure it stays a true network of friends. Maybe see you on behomm.
