I’m super excited to introduce you to Lindsey Love and her blog Dolly And Oatmeal today who kindly gave me permission to feature some of her beautiful food photography with a link to one of my favourite recipes.

If you haven’t already heard of her blog it’s been on my drool-roll for a loooong time. Not only does she cleverly use fresh seasonal produce but most recipes are gluten and diary-free as Lindsey has got some food intolerances. I love her attitude towards food which means feeding the body and mind in a more conscious and mindful way by creating nourishing and tasty meals. A commitment I fully subscribe to despite my occasional chocolate binge.

As you know I’m a stickler for detail and her top-notch food styling and photography had me at first glance. It’s a mostly rustic (that word again!) setting that gives off a real homely atmosphere featuring her awesome vintage dining table with some deliberately un-ironed napkins popping up occasionally as well as other barely noticed gorgeous props that simply complete the shot. She has a great eye for detail and composition and I could just dive into any of her recipes.

On her blog Lindsey also writes about her travels with hubby Frank and what’s happening in her Brooklyn neighbourhood. The spicy chickpea stew and quinoa pilaf is actually a recipe from one of her ‘heros’ and go-to’s for inspiration, Amy Chaplin. You can find this and many other wholesome seasonal recipes in Amy’s book At Home In The Whole Food Kitchen, which is going straight onto my Christmas wish list.

Now feast your eyes on these wholesome tasty teaser shots and hop over to Dolly And Oatmeal for the real deal – pssst… Lindsey uses delicata instead of butternut squash, genius!

PEOPLE TO WATCH | THE FUTURE KEPT

8 December 2014

the future kept, online store, jeska and dean hearne, collection, curated, sustainable, thoughtful, passion, design, timeless, qualities, independent, designers, makers, artisans, entrepreneurs, Uashmama, bag, tote, handcrafted, tuscany, trend, green credentials, consumerism, ethical

Happy Monday y’all. It’s been a while since I’ve introduced some People To Watch but nestled in the south-east corner of England are husband and wife team Jeska and Dean Hearne who have created a collection of best in class products all with a story to tell under the name of The Future Kept.

Both come from a creative background and their eye for design and detail has led them to curate a selection of beautiful and useful items that are made with love by people with a passion for what they do, and a care for the future of the world we live in.

All items are designed and carefully sourced from independent designers, makers, artisans and entrepreneurs with timeless qualities inspiring a curiosity and desire within people to make more sustainable and ethical choices.

I fully endorse the fight against our throw-away society and especially during the lead up to Christmas – which often ends up in a shopping frenzy – a little thoughtfulness goes a long way. So to make your life easier I’ve selected some of my favourite goods from their site below. Frankly all their products are fantastic and for the time-poor amongst you Jeska and Dean have put together some clever gift choices for HIM and HER.

I especially love the Uashmama (pronounced wash mama) bags featured above. They look and feel like leather, but wash like a fabric and hold its form – the ultimate in promoting sustainability. The bags are designed and handcrafted in Tuscany by a company created by four sisters in homage to their Mother, who are passionate about designing nature friendly, stylish products that celebrate Tuscan tradition with innovation.

If you sign up to their mailing list you’ll even get a 10% discount – sign up and take a browse.

NORWEGIAN CHRISTMAS CABIN DECOR

4 December 2014

norwegian, christmas, cabin, decor, home, weekend, mountains, skiing, snow, retreat, interior design, rustic modern, calm, relaxed, vintage finds, mix, bolina, interior boutique, bespoke kitchen, reclaimed, recycled, wooden planks, barn

December is going to be even more manic than usual for me as we’re preparing to move house at the end of the month. Only 10min down the road but I’ve got no idea how to get it done… yet. I’m sure some last minute inspiration, read childcare (any volunteers?), is going to turn up and it’ll all be fine. Famous last words, eh!?

Until then I’m burying my head firmly in the sand, or snow if this idyllic Norwegian Christmas cabin decor is anything to go by.

The calm and relaxed atmosphere is just what I need at the moment and I love how all the vintage finds mix in beautifully with new home decor from shops like Tine K Home and the owners online interior boutique Bolina.

The white floors and ceilings really lift the interior and draw the eye to the opposing black walls and the feature fire place. It’s a simple and rustic setting with a bespoke kitchen made from reclaimed planks from an old barn and personal memories on display giving it warmth and character.

A fabulous mountain retreat and perfect for sticking my head in the snow.

CELEBRATING 60 YEARS OF SERIES 7 CHAIR

3 December 2014

”series

The Series 7™ chair designed by Arne Jacobsen back in the 1960ies has become a design icon and I love it’s form and function in equal measure.

To celebrate the diversity of contexts that this iconic chair has performed in during its first 60 years of life – from MoMA in New York to Centre Bakery in Tokyo Fritz Hansen have created two jubilee models in special colours. A masculine edition with a dark blue lacquer shell and powder-coated burnished legs. And a feminine edition dressed in pale pink lacquer with 24-ct gold-plated legs.

Explaining the design background and inspiration for the jubilee edition Fritz Hansen says:

The 60th Anniversary Edition of the Series 7 is inspired by the notion that ‘opposites attract’, a key theme in interior design right now. The 60th Anniversary Edition of the Series 7 chair is all about contrast – in materials and colours. While the deep dark blue and the pale pink may contrast each other, they also interact to create a calm and elegant look, attracting and complementing one another. To mark the 60th anniversary of this iconic chair, each chair has a golden plate mounted on the underside of the shell.

I don’t know about you but I want BOTH. #modernproblems

CHRISTMAS AT HOME WITH TOAST UK

1 December 2014

It’s the first of December so let’s get this party started! I’ve already teased you last week with some simple and stylish Christmas DIYs and a beautiful modern rustic home full of Christmas scents in Denmark but today I’m going to get you in shopping mood.

These beautiful dark and moody Christmas shots are from one of my favourite brands, Toast UK. I’ve featured their clothes a few times on the blog but I’m equally in love with their house and home range.

Comfy and luxurious, sexy and rustic – their loungewear is made for an elegant yet relaxed Christmas, blissfully without any garish battery-powered toys or sticky fingers in sight. [I know the grass is always greener…]

I adore the styling of these shots which represent a welcome contrast to all the crisp, clean and mostly white festive decoration that is so on trend at the moment.
