MOOD BOARD | IN LOVE WITH GREY

I’m going to continue the monochrome theme today with grey which has always been a bit of a favourite colour for me. It’s so flattering in clothing and interiors as it provides a great backdrop and base for pops of colour.

Last week I came across Cereal founder and editor Rosa Parks article of The Graham & Co and fell in love with the look of this small boutique hotel in the Catskills, a mere 100 miles north of New York City.

Perfectly located for hiking, fishing and skiing the hotel describes itself as a modern take on the classic weekend getaway. It is run by four friends who all have a background in design and fashion which accounts for the simple modern rustic styling of the rooms. Rosa’s shot of the branded grey blanket above gives you a flavour of the hotel’s laid back and comfortable style. Check out their website for more details.

And if you don’t already follow Rosa on Instagram make sure to check out her inspirational feed.

RUUTU VASES FOR IITTALA

I’m not normally a fan of coloured glass but somehow I find myself fascianted by these diamond-shaped Ruutu vases designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Finnish design brand Iittala.

It’s a collection of 10 vases in five sizes and seven watercolour tones, which fit together in different arrangements to overlay the colours. As the photography demonstrated they can look stunning in a simple setting with light flooding through the delicate handblown glass. The designers explain their concept:

We were seeking to express the purity of glass blowing in this simple diamond shape. We wanted to show the sophisticated range of Iittala colours while at the same time handing the job over to the user who will feel tempted to have several modules to create his or her own individual assemblage.

I like the playful nature and the delicate tones of the different vases which look just as stunning with or without displaying flowers.

I know I’m jumping the gun a bit since we’re still in the middle of winter but I’m craving some greens and the latest Tine K home collection hit the spot with me.

I love the styling of the products set against a back drop of concrete and brought to life with simple greens. Somehow I now want an olive tree in my living room…

FOOD HEAVEN | TOFU AND PUMPKIN LAKSA RECIPE

7 January 2015

food heaven, donna hay, recipes, tofu, laksa, pumpkin, coconut, exotic, flavoursome, easy, quick, inspiration, noodles, healthy, light cuisine

Time for a little bit of FOOD HEAVEN today. After Christmas I’m kind of fed up with meat, stews and root vegetables in general and am craving exotic flavours and light cuisine, something spicy and fresh without meat would be nice. And since I can’t just hop on the plane and jet off to Thailand I had a little browse on Donna Hay’s site, one of my favourites for recipe inspirations.

She has got a brilliant ‘fast weeknights’ section with simple, healthy and flavoursome recipes and this tofu and pumpkin laksa is definitely on the menu for us this week. I love the flavours in combination with noodles and tofu and I’m hoping the taste and smell will transport me straight to Koh Phi Phi.

TOFU AND PUMPKIN LAKSA

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS:

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
185g store-bought laksa paste
500ml chicken stock
2 x 400ml cans coconut milk
2 tablespoons fish sauce
800g pumpkin, peeled and sliced
400g tenderstem broccoli, trimmed and chopped
250g dried vermicelli noodles, cooked
300g silken tofu, sliced
4 green onions (scallions), thinly sliced
1 cup coriander (cilantro) leaves
2 long red chillies, sliced

DIRECTIONS:

Heat the oil in a large saucepan over high heat. Add the laksa paste and cook for 1 minute. Add the stock, coconut milk and fish sauce and bring to the boil. Add the pumpkin and cook for 12 minutes or until tender. Add the tenderstem broccoli and cook for a further 2 minutes or until tender. Divide the noodles between bowls and spoon over the soup. Top with the tofu, green onion, coriander and chilli to serve.

COLOURFUL | A BOOK BY LOTTA AGATON & PIA ULIN

5 January 2015

Hello to the first Monday of 2015! No talk of New Years resolutions from me as I haven’t gotten my head around the fact that it’s a new year yet – I’m just glad to have survived the move.

After a week of packing and unpacking we’re pretty much settled in the new place and I’m super excited to report that I even have my own little office, you might catch a glimpse of it on Instagram.

However… it was painful getting here especially after a super relaxing and idyllic Christmas with just the four of us involving ice skating, walks and roaring fires as well as great food, drinks and movies. We finally started packing after Felix’ 4th birthday and the tower of boxes grew at frightening speed. I was shocked to see how much stuff we had managed to accumulate over the past 4 years and when the van driver announced that he had to take two instead of one trip I knew I had to let go of some things.

My yoga teacher Laura did this great meditation with us a few weeks back where she asked us to imagine we had everything, absolutely everything, every wish was fulfilled and then ask ourselves what do we need? Really need? The thought resonated with me and came back up during the packing sparking an intention to pare back and live with less.

Clothes are a tough one for me as there are so many memories attached and fashions come round again so quickly (and I’m stingy) but I’m determined to sift through that big pile and just keep a couple of outfits.

So…. after that little update I want to show you some shots from Colourful a celebration of Swedish interior stylist Lotta Agaton and photographer Pia Ulin’s 10 year collaboration working for various publications and magazines. The book comes in 4 different covers and has sold like hotcakes via Lotta’s webshop.

I love the warm muted colours, furniture and intentional styling in these shots. Clean, functional and modern the apartment reflects my current mood and I hope will set the tone for 2015.
