COOL STUFF | FOR THE KITCHEN VIA ARTILLERIET

1 May 2015

Artilleriet, webshop, home wares, for the home, style, trend, kitchen, wish list, decor, utility, contemporary design, vintage one-off finds, quality materials, blackline collection, bread cutting tray, stone washed cutlery, marble pots

I think I may have found my perfect home wares webshop for Modern Rustic Living. Artilleriet is a Swedish store that sells an eclectic mix of one-off vintage finds and contemporary products in innovative and classic designs.

Their curation is outstanding and has a contemporary scandinavian feel to it with form following function, the use of quality materials and a sense that great care has been taken to produce each individual piece.

Here’s a little selection for my kitchen wish list with the black wooden chopping boards and the bread cutting tray fighting for the top spot. Closely followed by the stone washed cutlery set and the marble pots. Oh, that would look soooo good in my kitchen and on my table.

Interestingly, the wood items in the Blackline Collection utilise a natural reactive process to give them their distinct dark finish, no pigments are used and it is totally food safe. Sold!

MY MONTH ON INSTAGRAM | APRIL 2015

29 April 2015

As you can see from the photos I had a fabulously London-centric April and feel that I’ve really re-connected with the city and what it has to offer. I can get so head up out here in the ‘burbs with mummy duties and daily chores that I forget how good it is to go out and explore what’s just a short train ride away.

So, I decided to take the kids to the Tate Modern for a day out and they loved running around the huge turbine hall. They didn’t get why there were ropes around the ‘doggie poopie’ as they called Joseph Beuys seminal installation and pretended to be tip toeing around the Kandinsky’s before speeding off down the corridor screaming. After that I decided to treat ourselves to a proper lunch in the cafe and they behaved surprisingly well colouring in their placemat. I even had time to take in the wonderful view over the Millennium Bridge and St Pauls Cathedral before mopping up spilled drinks and picking up food from the floor. Hey, it’s a definite improvement from a few years ago when I remember trying to eat lunch in a packed restaurant with a screaming baby on my lap. Now, that was stressful!

And since it was such a successful day out we took The Cowboy the following weekend for another trip into town and admired the London Eye before strolling along the Southbank and exploring the new all-day cafe at the National Theatre called Kitchen. They served super yummy food and I highly recommend you try it out as it’s a lot quieter than some of the other places along the Southbank.

London, I’ve fallen in love with you – again!

INTERIORS BOOK | MONOCHROME HOMES

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Lotta Agaton’s styling work and her collaborative book ‘Colourful’ with photographer Pia Ulin has got pride of place on my coffee table – just as soon as the kids and their sticky hands have gone to bed.

I’m thrilled to report that Pia has another book coming out. This time a collaboration with stylist Hilary Robertson and the title ‘Monochrome Homes’ says it all and makes my heart beat faster. Here’s a little excerpt to whet your appetite:

Decorating in black and white is perennially popular and eternally chic. Hilary Robertson demonstrates how, whether used alone or together, these contrasting shades can create dramatic effects at home, from the classic to the eclectic.

PLACES TO GO | VILLA VERGELLE, TUSCANY

24 April 2015

Villa-Vergelle-Tuscany-via-Stylejuicer-01

All this Spring sunshine has started to make me think about holidays and as if by magic – other might say serendipity – Villa Vergelle pops up.

Turns out I’ve admired this holiday rental for a good 5 months now as it’s featured on the cover of Country Living’s Modern Rustic issue #02 [can’t wait for issue #03 which should be out any day now] so I was ecstatic to find some more photos online.

This Italian country home is a great example of adapting an old house and making it fit for 21st century living. The interior features industrial elements like exposed steel girders, pipes and ceiling lighting as well as polished concrete flooring and a hand-built kitchen with cabinets made from wide recycled planks and open shelving.

The layout is family friendly with a large kitchen / dining / living area on the ground floor and super cool in-built bunk beds for the kiddos upstairs. All beds, cabinets and shelves are custom-built from recycled wood and I love the worn, slightly burnt patina which contrasts so well with the industrial elements.

A dream home for me and a successful renovation project where the owners sensitively opened up the previously small windows to let in more light and added wooden shutters to control the heat in the height of summer.

You can book a stay in this delightful luxury space via SpecialUmbria.

STUDIO ENVY | KATRIN BAATH

I don’t even know where to begin gushing about this fabulous studio belonging to Swedish art director and stylist Katrin Bååth who coincidentally was part of the duo that shot Monday’s post about Swedish homeware brand Skapha.

Another Jönköpping resident her work for mostly fashion and lifestyle brands is clean and classy and her studio reflects her professional aesthetics. A light and airy space in what looks like an old period building with high ceilings and large windows she’s kept the space mostly white with a few vintage accents mixed with sleek, modern and functional furniture.

My favourite piece has to be her black display cabinet which makes me feel like a kid in a sweet shop. So many gorgeous things to look at and no sticky hands in sight!

Enjoy the fabulous photography by Sara Landstedt and I’m sorry if I’ve inflicted studio envy!
