Do you remember having a saggy bottom in your swimmers when on holiday or at the pool!? I sure do. No swimming costume lasted more than a summer season as pool, sea and sand did their best to destroy the fabric and colours bleached and faded under the hot sun. Well, I might have contributed just slightly by basically living in my swimwear regardless of what I was doing or sitting on. Oh, all that lovely Spanish Franco concrete… I remember it well.

Memories of that sort came back to me when I spoke to Noya Bebawi founder of Beanie and Bear at Dot To Dot a few weeks ago. She told me she took matters in her own hand when she couldn’t find anything tasteful and durable for her little ones to wear during one of their extended summer vacations at her mum’s house in Spain. Being a graphic designer and children’s illustrator as well as an all round supermum she has managed to create a collection of high quality bikinis and tailored trunks in a range of bold colours and playful prints. Her focus is on perfect fit, quality and durability with a cut that channels the 70s and a touch of 80s neon – handy when trying to track your kids in a crowd. See, told you she’s a supermum! The cherry on top is that all products are ethically sourced and made in Britain. Noya says:

“I wanted to bring together the aesthetic of great adult swimwear with a sense of the playful that will appeal to little people. This has been as much about bringing a vision in my head to life as it has been about getting inspiration from my children. Beanie’s brilliant illustrations have formed the basis for a range of prints and Bear has an uncanny ability to test things to destruction!”

Having seen her range I’ve totally fallen in love with the collection of quality swimwear and was impressed by the attention to detail. How cute are those little thunderbolt tags!?

Best thing is they even have their own YouTube channel where you can find her husband’s special summer mix of Beanie & Bear tunes. He’s also the talented photographer who took the lookbook shots featuring their two kids – a complete family production.

DREAM HOLIDAY HOME | MINIMALIST IN GREECE

Whilst I’m on my way West with the family and everything but the kitchen sink I’m leaving you with this beautiful minimalist dream holiday home in Greece.

Summer holidays are almost here and the shots by R Richard for Elle France capture the essence of easy summer living for me with an almost tangible laid-back atmosphere thanks to a relaxing combination of hot sunshine and a cooling breeze off the sea. Looking at these images makes me want to flop into a hammock and have a long siesta.

The minimalist, contemporary renovation features old favourites like polished concrete floors (do I ever feature a place without!?) white-washed walls and a perfect modern rustic kitchen combined with traditional open floor cabinets, not to mention the large outdoor dining space.

I might just turn the plane around and head East instead. Enjoy this little Greek getaway. There will be more holiday spam coming your way in the next couple of weeks. 😉

HEADING WEST FOR THE SUMMER

Phew… the last few weeks (months acutally) have been ridiculously crazy round here.

Preparing for the launch of my new kids apparel and decor brand Wild Boys & Girls in September has taken up pretty much most evenings and nights. Plus keeping the blog going as well as Instagram updates and making sure our two little primates are kept happy and entertained… well, it’s been a bit too stressful for my liking.

However, we’re finally heading west on our big summer adventure to the USA which should bring some much needed rest and relaxation. First stop Colorado to spend time with family including a little trip to Aspen before catching up with some very special friends from San Francisco. Both our families have doubled in size since we last saw each other and I’m looking forward to getting all the new kiddies together. Dad Stevie is an amazing photographer and I’m hoping he’ll let me share some pics on here.

Most of all I’m looking forward to experiencing the mountains, countryside, people and culture and am hoping to meet up with some lovely Instagram friends. Talking of which and provided there’s wifi I’ll be posting regularly on IG so you can follow along if you fancy.

Our trip will be a game of two halves: Rugged countryside to adrenaline fulled city life in New York City and I’m beyond excited about staying with lovely friends in Manhattan. Looking at my list of things to do I won’t have time to sleep – who does in this city!? Yeah, right! All those sights, museums, cafes, restaurants and quirky little shops and corners to explore and most of all people watching – I can not wait!

I was young free and single when I first explored this crazy city so this time round it’ll be very different with two little dudes and a Cowboy in tow but I’m hoping that little treats along the way will keep all three happy.

DREAM HOLIDAY HOME | FORMENTERA

Oh I love the Balearic Islands and this house on Formentera is a renovation as well as an extension project and effortlessly combines tradition and modern design.

The original stone house was preserved by architects Marià Castelló and Daniel Redolat whilst adding space that sits unobtrusive in this stunning location. It’s the limited palette of materials and minimal design that highlights the traditional features like stone walls, sloping ceilings and exposed beams. It’s a modern rustic house with an emphasis on modern as the striking shapes and angles of the architecture have created little outdoor retreat and sitting areas whichever way the sun beams.

I love the flow of light and air through the house that is united by it’s polished concrete floor and white-washed walls though my favourite part has to be the shaded terrace. I can see myself lying there happily with a glass of something just watching the sun set across the infinity pool. *Bliss*

Quite possibly my dream holiday home!

DREAM HOLIDAY HOME | ‘FIVE COLUMNS’ ESSAOUIRA

The dream holiday home series continues with a beautifully restored 200 year old house in Morocco. The Five Columns is a 2.5hr drive from Marrakech in the laid back resort of Essaouira which I read has got some of the world’s best surfing and unspoilt sandy beaches as a well a bustling Medina with bakeries and fruit stalls all within a five minute walking distance.

The house has recently gone through a complete renovation and sympathetically restored retaining it’s original features such as the 5 sand stone columns that give the place it’s name. The shots are taken by one of my favourite photographers, Paulina Arcklin, whose personal style fits perfectly with the restored house: simple, contemporary, ethnic and chic. I even like the way she’s water marked all the images with her signature – true Paulina!

It’s a stunning home from home with a luxurious and comfortable feel and I can imagine going there with a group of friends for a relaxing holiday to soak up some authentic Moroccan culture and style with great cooking provided at extra cost by a local lady.

The fully equipped kitchen, central dining area and cosy fire place should make it easy to relax and feel at home straight away. They even have wifi and an iPod dock for those who don’t want to be off the grid. And the sunny terrace on the second floor has got sun loungers and an open-plan bar.
