THE APARTMENT BY ANOTHER COUNTRY | LDF2015

Oh, how I love living in London and London Design Festival is one of my favourite weeks of the year. I was invited to see The Apartment at Perseverance Works in East London which had been designed in collaboration with British tastemaker Suzy Hoodless.

Another Country were celebrating their fifth birthday and it was inspiring to see a whole domestic setting fitted out with furniture and accessories designed and produced since 2010. I’ve long been a fan of their contemporary British design which advocates traditional slow values as founder Paul de Zwart explains:

“Another Country was, quite literally, crafted from a workshop in Dorset with one simple idea: to create a relevant, modern brand that expressed a set of values through furniture. Furniture that was made to last, inspired by archetype, produced sustainably, and fairly priced.”

The Apartment also included complementary pieces from likeminded brands such as Vanderhurd textiles, industrial lighting from Workstead, and artwork by Serpentine Galleries and David Murphy, showcasing the versatility of their collections and narrating the brand’s values and ethos.

You can see more of the commissioned Dorset series in Another Country’s showroom on Crawford Street in Marylebone including some beautiful photography by Rich Stapleton.

FOOD STYLING | LOTTA AGATON

28 September 2015

food styling, lotta agaton, photography, kristofer johnsson, swedish, residence magazine, autumn mood, simplicity, hearty meals, warm, comforting, comfort food, poetic, picturesque, style, trend

Let’s kick off this Monday morning with some beautiful food styling by Lotta Agaton for Swedish Residence Magazine. Kristofer Johnsson took the shots and I love the autumnal mood and simplicity.

It makes me want to start cooking hearty meals and soups and make pastry and pies. Warm and comforting food that I can dive into after a brisk walk during cold crisp days.

Ah… I could deal with autumn if it was always this poetic and picturesque. Let’s just hang on to this for a while before the next wet weather front hits the UK.

ARCHITECTURE | SOUTH AFRICAN CABIN

25 September 2015

south africa, south african cabin, milkdecoration, corrugated iron cladding, cape town, weekend getaway, architecture, architects, Beatty Vermeiren, rough, unfinished, functional, functionality, plywood, outdoor shower, basic human needs, stripped back, bare, ecological, mindful, re-connect with nature, detox, experience, trend, style, minimal

I was immediately intrigued when I spotted this property on Milk Decoration because of it’s container like look and corrugated iron cladding. But as it turns out this South African cabin just outside Cape Town is a functional weekend getaway built on a tight budget and the architects played around with folding sheets of paper throughout the initial study phase.

I like that all materials have a rough and unfinished look with a dedication to functionality. Interior walls are made of plywood, light fittings are deliberately displayed and there’s an outdoor shower with a customised tap constructed from bare pipes and a concrete barrel shaped washbasin.

No surprise the owners brief was to have just their basic human needs of sleeping, eating, relaxing and sitting around a fire met under one roof. It’s stripped back, mindful and ecological living to re-connect with nature and I bet there’s no wifi for the complete weekend detox experience.

STYLING | SASA ANTIC FOR ELLE DECORATION UK

23 September 2015

elle decoration uk, decor, styling, style, trend, interior design, interior, dark tones, Saša Antić, stylist, Kristofer Johnsson, photographer, portfolio, soft lighting, autumn

Some lovely styling shots via Elle Decoration UK to lift your spirits on this hump day. I love the darker tones in the pictures and the soft lighting which hints at autumn being just around the corner.

Saša Antić is an fabulous stylist and Kristofer Johnsson equally talented behind the camera. I don’t think there’s a single story in either portfolio that I don’t like. Can’t wait to see more from the talented duo.

COOL STUFF | IKEA ALEX DESK

21 September 2015

interior, styling, ikea, desk, alex desk, cool stuff, furniture, home office, johanna asshoff, Anna Mårselius, stylist, photography, Ragnar Ómarsson, trend, style, autumn, dark, mood

With the shop opening, blogging and design work my desk is overflowing and I’ve taken a shine to this new IKEA Alex Desk. It’s designed by Johanna Asshoff and has plenty inbuilt storage as well as space for hiding ugly cables.
Anna Mårselius did a fantastic styling job perfectly capturing the slightly darker autumn mood that’s slowly creeping in.

Don’t you just love the dark grey colour!?
