I’ve got a new shop crush: The New Craftsmen in Mayfair, London. It’s located in a striking arts and crafts building, originally designed and built as a workshop for a firm of leather breech makers. A very appropriate location since TNC represent a selection of Britain’s finest craft makers showcasing the materials, skills and craft products of the British Isles.
They currently represent a network of over 75 makers working in textiles, silverware, furniture, ceramics, jewellery, glassware and beyond selling a carefully selected range of products, limited editions and exclusive collaborations via their Mayfair shop and online.
I love their ethos which resides in artisanship, traditional skills and craft being used in contemporary ways – very on trend at the moment as we see a backlash against mass production and a return to individuality and tradition all with a modern twist.
The products are made with dedication and a real passion for materials and design. Admittedly this exceptional quality doesn’t come cheap but the attention to detail is next to none as you can see in some of the shots I’ve included below. The beauty is that these are potential design classics of the future and will last you a lifetime.
A gem of a shop, especially if you’re looking for something unique and at the same time supporting the heritage of British craftsmanship and emerging talents.
