IN THE MIX | CUTE KIDS STUFF

25 March 2014

Ferm Living, Paul Et Paula, Yay Sweatshirt, Design Binge, RH Baby & Child, Vestiaire de Jeanne, Kids Stuff, In The Mix

Welcome to a new column. IN THE MIX is going to pop up weekly and focus on a theme close to my heart. Being a bit of a Pinterest and Bloglovin addict I come across so many great things to share that I needed a vehicle to bring them to you in a structured way. A bit like sorting out the crockery by shapes, colour and sizes. And yes, I do like to make sure the handles all face in one direction.

So, just leaves me to say enjoy today’s mix of adorable super cute kids stuff.

B O Y / / I found this super cool ‘Yay’ Sweatshirt via Paul Et Paula, a favourite kiddo blog of mine.
B O O K E N D S / / Anything in grey felt gets my immediate attention.

INTERIORS CRUSH | KIDS ROOMS IDEAS

10 March 2014

copyright-mydeer.nl-maaike-koster-04

Morning y’all! I’m totally excited as this week we’re finally hopefully going to get actual Spring like temperatures in the UK. Yay!!! The days are getting longer, we can all wake up from our hibernation, peek out from under the duvet and blink into the beaming sun. I hope I haven’t jinxed it now as I’m writing this on a Sunday night. Fingers crossed.

Along with my newfound energy comes an enthusiasm for all things green and I’d like to introduce you to Dutch interior stylist and all-round design talent Maaike Koster of MyDeer.

She’s the creator of these beautiful kids rooms I’m featuring today and a fellow Mama of two little boys. Spookily, the similarities don’t end there. She’s also a graphic designer [tick], interiors junkie [tick], photography obsessive [tick] and she lives in the same little town in Holland as one of our best buds [so cool, and another tick]. Ok, maybe that last bit of info is only interesting to me but hey… justsayin’.

I find her kids rooms ideas truly inspiring and adore the fresh green as an accent colour in a mainly white bedroom. The industrial pendant light and antique trunk show her love for flea market finds and the green mushroom lamp is a little quirky touch and one that can also be spotted in the second featured bedroom. I like the way she’s displaying the children’s books as a piece of wall art on some shallow shelving, a simple DIY project that might even be within my grasp and no. 225 on the to-do list.

As I mentioned she’s obviously got a penchant for mushrooms [why not] with a cushion and lamp on display in the second (baby) bedroom. Appropriately dressed in much softer tones with accents of pale blue, mustard, black and white and a mix of some simple graphic patterns. The white cardboard playhouse is totally my thing and one that I’ve seen around on some trendy interiors blogs for a while but still not managed to find the source. Maaike, any tips? Finally, as a typography nerd I have to point out and totally celebrate the wall-mounted zinc 3D letter ‘L’. If that’s the initial of her baby sons name we’ve got another tick. Maybe Maaike will tell us in the comments!?

NOTE: Suffice to say Maaike also has the most dreamy Instagram feed.

ZARA SS14 MINI COLLECTION

18 February 2014

Kids, Zara, Mini, Baby, Collection, Spring, SS14, Fashion

Isn’t the latest Zara SS14 Mini Collection adorable? I could go mad over those tiny little clothes and love the way blogging buddies Jantine Vaartjes and Vivian Hoebe, aka April & May have styled the shots.

I’ve featured Zara Kids on here before and was excited to hear of the collaboration between the two Dutch stylists and the Spanish fashion house. The collection is beautiful with soft greys, pinks and blues and I love the quirky cuddly toy people that go with it. The prints feature some modern graphic clouds and stars and as usual Zara take great care with their detailing, like buttons, pockets and ruche details.

It’s all just too cute for words and I might just have to sneak in another moodboard in the coming months to satisfy all the yummy-mummy readers.

KIDS CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE

18 December 2013

Ok, so I’m jumping on the gift guide band wagon a little late but if you ask Santa nicely he might still be able to get all of these toys through his online elves in time for Christmas. You never know! 😉

So, looking at this kids Christmas gift guide I realise that it actually features all of my favourites – creative, educational, made from non-toxic wood or recycled rubber, sourced sustainably, sturdy toys withstanding even the fiercest tantrums that age beautifully so they can be handed down. Plus all are classic designs and come in beautiful colours.

‘Right Stylejuicer mummy, what world are you living in!?’ you’ll be thinking by now. ‘Ha! My kids want plastic, garish colours, preferably battery operated and noisy toys. You’d better re-think your gift guide and have a word with Santa pronto or you’ll be covered in bruises when these sustainably sourced wooden toys come flying your way.’

Oh, none of that please! I get your point but just for today let me daydream and imagine a world where kids play nicely with unique timeless toys. And, no, there will be no alternative Christmas gift guide as you won’t find Stylejuicer promoting anything other than quality.

NOTE: Most of the toys can be found in one of my favourite online kiddie store, SMALLABLE. Individual links are below the image.

DON’T BE SCARED! LAST MINUTE HALLOWEEN DIY IDEAS

29 October 2013

It’s HALLOWEEN week here on Stylejuicer and to kick off I’ve collected some genuinely easy* (I use the term loosely) Halloween DIY ideas to dress and impress.

I don’t know about you but though I love the idea of handcrafting and DIY I simply don’t have the time! I adore the people who do and find the time to blog about it but I’m convinced that they’ve got more than 24 hours in their day or they are insomniacs or they’ve got a housekeeper or don’t watch DVD box sets or MAYBE they’ve just got different priorities. Hmmm…

So now that I’ve confessed my DIY envy I want to share some ideas with you that are fun and easy to recreate. Just take them as a template and free style to your hearts content. It doesn’t have to be perfect, the wonkier and spookier the better. It’s Halloween after all!

Halloween DIY via Stylejuicer
SCARY BALLOONS: So effective and easy via Swedish blog Trendenser by Frida Ramstedt. Just get your marker pen out and copy those spooky faces but don’t push down too hard or… POP!

BAT NAPKIN HOLDERS: Napkin holders are always a fab way to decorate the table and these paper bats are easy to cut and put together. If you need more instructions just follow this link to Woman’s Day.

BAT WING MINI PUMPKINS: And another idea for stylish and effective table decorations by Frida Ramstedt of Trendenser. Some mini pumpkins with DIY paper bat wings. Genius!

GHOST & BAT GARLAND: I adore these cute little ghosts and bat garlands which I found over on evite.

GHOST LOLLIES: Dress up your Halloween lollies as scary ghosts by the crafty Liz Stanley from Say Yes To Hoboken.

BIN LINER SPIDERS WEB: I love any DIY idea that involves materials found in my kitchen cupboard so I just had to share this spiders web with you made from a humble bin liner which I found over on How About Orange. Neat idea!

SELF-SERVE TREAT BAGS: Martha Stewart has of course got THE best idea for self-serve Halloween treat bags. You can find instructions here or just take this as a concept and stencil or paint your own little bags. They’ll look gorgeous pinned to a pumpkin either way.

RIP CHOCOLATE DESSERT: Now, you’re going to be upset with me as I can’t find the source for this recipe BUT I wanted to include these scary desserts anyway as I think you’ll be able to make up your own quite easily. It looks to me like a chocolate mousse with roughly chopped dark chocolate as top soil and a RIP decorated chocolate chip cookie as a tombstone. Super scary but no doubt delicious.

TRICK OR TREAT CHALK BOARD: And for all you creative hand lettering enthusiasts out there including myself I found this Trick or Treat chalk board on Etsy by LilyandVal. If you’ve got oodels of time do it yourself or just put an order in – no one will ever know! 😉

Enjoy and I hope you’re inspired!
