JONO SMART | POTTER

It’s time to introduce our second guest speaker for Function+Form this weekend: Jono Smart – and let me tell you that man is on a roll. Though this proverbial roll is actually a potters wheel which unbelievably he only discovered a few years ago after having spent time travelling and working as a landscape gardener.

His aptitude for the craft is second to none and his clean and contemporary style is a perfect fit for our crowd this Saturday where he’ll be holding his first talk about his work and journey from garden shed to potters barn.

He says: “The first time I sat at a pottery wheel I felt at home, It was natural and comfortable. I’ve been making every day since.

I tend towards straight lines and simple forms. I feel this gives me freedom to experiment with texture, tone, colour, groups and scale. I gravitate towards white and grey but find unexpected happiness in green and blue.”

Jono wants to make things that are used every day. Things that become part of daily routines and rituals. That become part of Sunday morning breakfasts, remind you of a friend, or get placed each night on a bedside table which is quite possibly the most down to earth and humble wish I’ve heard from a craftsman in a long time.

I can’t wait to handle, touch and feel Jono’s vessels as he likes to keep the outside untreated so it can age, have character, feel human and not too precise, pristine or mechanical but just natural.

RENOVATED TOWNHOUSE IN VESTERBRO | CPH

11 November 2015

renovated townhouse, vesterbro, copenhagen, Marie Rasmussen, architect, mix of old and new, inherited antiques, personal art, character, style, texture, styling, trend, different shades of white, subtle nuances, neutral colour palette

Life is crrrrazy busy this week with preparations for our first Function+Form event on Saturday but I couldn’t resist sneaking in this gorgeous renovated townhouse, located in Vesterbro outside Copenhagen.

The owner Marie Rasmussen is an architect and has skilfully furnished her new pad with a mix of inherited antiques and modern design classics which adds real character to the period apartment perfectly illustrated in the mix of chairs around her dining table.

Her professional expertise comes in handy and she used different shades of white for the ceiling, stucco, window frames and walls to create subtle nuances when the light floods in.

I like how Marie managed to personalise her home with selected pieces of art and inherited antiques without overwhelming and cluttering the space. All the while sticking to a calm, neutral colour palette and using lots of different textures like wood, leather and textiles.

This is definitely one for the Pinterest board.

FUNCTION AND FORM | A UNIQUE GATHERING

26 October 2015

Function-And-Form-Gatherings-Introduction-01

You may have noticed that I haven’t been posting as much on the blog lately… all with good reason!

I’ve been quietly working away with my friend Tiff from Curate & Display on a fabulous new venture which we are finally proud to reveal.

Function and Form is a new collaborative gathering combining relaxed, informal dining with handcrafted design. As so much of our lives today are spent online, we seek to bring the enjoyment of interior and lifestyle design into a tangible being whilst enjoying the company of like-minded friends. A chance to make new connections, a chance for real conversation. Each gathering focuses on the work of a designer who we admire for their ethos, their aesthetic, sharing with us their inspiration and inviting us to delve deeper into their process.

Beautiful food in a venue equally so, in great company.

Function-And-Form-Gatherings-Introduction-02

The idea for Function+Form came about when Tiff and I felt there was a lack of well organised, regular socials that were aesthetically pleasing.

We were both feeling the gulf between the online community and the real-life isolation of working alone and decided to bring about a new gathering. F+F focuses broadly on interior design and our intention is to bring like-minded individuals together who share our simple, contemporary aesthetic and desire for slow-living.

Function-And-Form-Gatherings-Introduction-03

We will be running gatherings three to four times a year which are currently free of charge thanks to the support of our sponsors and partners with no more than 20-25 spaces at one time.

You don’t have to be an industry professional to join us, if you have a passion for interiors, design and creative pursuits, you are very welcome, just drop us an email. Our gatherings are also a great platform for showcasing and promoting new and independent designers and craftsmanship.

I can’t tell you how excited we are to host our first gathering sponsored by online community at{mine} in a couple of weeks which is now fully booked. It’s going to be awesome!

INTERIORS INSPO | KINFOLK HOME BOOK

19 October 2015

the kinfolk home book, interiors, decor, styling, style, stylist, photographer, inspiration, natural materials, muted natural tones, textures, comfort, warmth, informal, earthy, christmas wish list, trend, taste

If you love interiors and slow living you will have heard of The Kinfolk Home book that has just been released to squeals of delights from interiors addicts around the world.

Today’s shots are a taster of a very special Los Angeles home which grabbed my attention, styled by the owner Jessica de Ruiter herself and shot by one of my favs… Pia Ulin. To me these pictures are an utter delight to look through. The muted natural tones and textures and the earthy informal look and feel give this place real warmth and comfort.

Looking at the list of contributing stylists and photographers I’m quietly confident that the other homes along with it’s owners will be equally inspiring.

One for the Christmas wish list!

A STUDIO APARTMENT BRIMMING WITH GREENERY

16 October 2015

studio, apartment, greenery, playful, integration, plants, urban jungle bloggers, community, trend, style, stand out, cosy, interior design, decor

This tiny studio apartment caught my eye because of the playful way plants have been integrated into the interior design. You might have heard of Urban Jungle Bloggers run by my blogging buddies Judith and Igor and I think this would be a great fit for their community – kinda living with plants taken to the extreme in a small space.

After my initial gasp at the greenery my second thought was that it looked too messy for me but on reflection this messy interior gives a really cosy feel and is a deliberate choice by the stylist I’m sure.

After all this studio is up for sale on Stadshem and it sure stands out amongst the tidy, clean and streamlined interiors.
