Terrazzo is having a bit of a moment right now and I’m loving it! Originally created by Venetian construction workers as a low cost flooring material most terrazzo now consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other suitable material, poured with a cementitious binder. After it is cured it is ground and polished smooth or otherwise finished to produce a uniformly textured surface.
A new take on Terrazzo is Marmoreal an engineered marble for architectural surfaces by the British designer Max Lamb. The word ‘marmoreal’ means ‘marble-like’ and is composed of approximately 95 percent marble and 5 percent polyester resin binders.
Another fascinating adaption are the Bentu Lights made from recycled waste and the stylised printed Ferm wallpaper above complete with metallic speckles and the triangle ruler from Danish designers Hay.
