NOW YOU CAN PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET

29 June 2013

This student work by Hungarian Otília Erdélyi is simple, clever and eco-friendly.

Her goal was to design an innovative packaging using a minimal amount of material. The container is made of natural microwaved cardboard and consists of one piece. Eggs are placed into ellipse-shaped cut-outs and the consumer gets to them by turning the top.

Genius and simple as eggs!

PLACES TO GO | LONDON’S MONOCLE CAFE

28 June 2013

Monocle Cafe London via Stylejuicer

Monocle Magazine is a favourite of most designers and now all the luvies can go the whole hog and engulf themselves in the complete Monocle experience enjoying their espressos at the newly openend Monocle cafe in London. And it really IS an experience! There are back issues and preferred titles to browse, live broadcasting on Monocle 24 and the downstairs area is available for subscribers to hire for client gatherings and team pow-wows complete with an installed short throw projector.

If that isn’t enough to lure you in for a coffee they prize themselves on their fresh and healthy food and only best quality coffee from New Zealand’s Allpress. On their website they proudly list their suppliers for everything from joinery, tables, stools, cutlery, glassware and aprons. They are clearly proud of their new venture and not afraid to shout about it.

So, I’m popping in next time I’m in town and will let you know if their service really is smart with a smile and a wink.

It sure looks promising!

Completely rebuilt by architect Laura Ziron this restored finca combines spacious modern living with a warm and neutral colourpalette.

The house used to be an ancient building that fell into disrepair. It’s owners could have taken the easy route and started from scratch but they wanted to restore the finca and turn it into a modern home using some of the original materials like recovered beams and wooden doors and floors. The mix of styles works well for this family residence and the beautiful gardens include a series of essential shady outdoor areas for the summer months.

I wish I could dive in that pool right now!

RESTORED, RECLAIMED, RECYCLED – VICTORIAN FAMILY HOME

24 June 2013

This lovingly transformed three-bedroom Victorian terraced house in Hertfordshire is packed with character.

The owners restored the old floorboards, used recycled fruit crates as kitchen cabinet doors and even built their own sofa because they couldn’t find one they liked. Now that’s hands on! I particularly like the clever use of under-stairs space for storage and creating a snug for hiding away. Vintage pieces like an old suitcase, pictures frame and antlers add to the reclaimed feel. A beautiful conherent look that won’t date.

FIFTEEN : LOVE WIMBLEDON

22 June 2013

Readers, I’m excited! My favourite sporting fortnight of the year is about to start.

Wimbledon 2013 gets underway in less than 48 hours and I can’t wait for the non-stop coverage and the soothing whack, smack, clap and authoritative voice of the umpire so I can drift off on the sofa for a little snooze. Hmmm, well the snoozing part was before we had kids so that might not be the case this year but anyway, I’m looking forward to all the drama and will join millions of Britons in their hope for a new British Champion. Will it be Andy Murray’s turn this year?

Below is my fun and not-too-serious moodboard with tennis fashion and memorabilia from various decades for all of those whose won’t be eating overpriced strawberries in SW19 this year.
